- Resolved Question: Can organizations discriminate based on age to 403(b) retirement plans?
(Thu, 24 Apr 2008 18:36:35 GMT)
403(b) retirement plan :
I have a friend that works for a university. In the university's 403(b) plan, if you are over the age of 26, and are a full time employee you can contribute to a plan in which the university matches/contributes at 8%. Otherwise, you can still defer salary into a 403(b) plan, but with no contribution from the university.
This seems to be blatant illegal age discrimination. Basing contributions on the age of the employee, rather than years of service doesn't seem possibly right. Also, every

I work for a private company in Texas. Their retirement policy states you must be at least 26 years old before you begin your retirement plan. I am 21, Full Time Employee Benefit Eligible. - Voting Question: I am eligible for 401(k), 403(b) and also 457(b) Plans, is there an overall limit to contributions to 3 plans?

403(b) retirement plan :
I work for a State University which has Optional Retirement Plan(401(k)) for which I can contribute 8% and my employer matches 7% of my salary, we also have 403(b) with $15,500 limit and also state offers 457(b) with 15,500 limit. I was wondering if there is an overall limit to contributions. Please advise. Thank you.

403(b) retirement plan :
I am taking a new position at a non-profit organization. This company is offering a 403(b) retirement plan and I am wondering if I should take it or not. They will pay 75% after 1 year and I can make contributions, before taxes, of up to 10% and I can be fully vested after 3 years of employment . What is the difference between this and a 401K or other retirement programs really?
- Voting Question: What are the basics to Retirment Planning?

403(b) retirement plan :
I am 20 years old and am looking far into my financial future. I want to be able to live comfortably far after I retire. I have just started looking into retirement planning and know NOTHING about it. I am looking for an introduction into Retirement Savings Plans. I would like to know about IRAs, Roth IRA's, Simple IRAs, 401(k)s, 403(b)s and stuff like that. Mostly

- Resolved Question: How do I make my teacher a rich millionaire by retirement?!?
(Thu, 21 Feb 2008 03:35:25 GMT)
403(b) retirement plan :
Okay, I got this finance project as an alternative project to what the class is doing because I am excelling in the class. I was asked to make a retirement plan for my teacher, who earns $43,000 a year, $75 a month goes to her Roth IRA and $75 a month goes to her 403(b). She owes $118,000 on her house, $10,000 on her car and $25,000 college debt. I can get more info if needed.
Now the question is, how should she invest her money and in what should she invest her money to have a nice retiremen
- Resolved Question: What's the Maximum retirement contribution. 401(k)/403(b)/457 combined?
(Fri, 16 Nov 2007 02:57:15 GMT)
403(b) retirement plan :
If the max 401(k) is 15,500. And the 457 max is also 15,500... And I do both plans in one year... is the max for the two combined 31,000 or 15,500?
I'm posting this question to resolve a bet with my co-worker. I can't win a bet by saying "some guy on the internet agrees with me". So any type of source would be handy.
So far, I'm losing the office bet by vote. Most people agree that 457 + 401(k) = $31,000 a year max (not $15,500).

- Resolved Question: Is it better to put retirement savings in a Roth IRA or tax-sheltered annuity?
(Sat, 22 Sep 2007 14:32:48 GMT)
403(b) retirement plan :
My employer offers a 401(a) pension plan to which they make contributions. I plan on enrolling in this so that I will get the max contribution from them. For other retirement savings, they also offer a tax-sheltered annuity 403(b) plan. Would it be better to contribute to a Roth IRA or participate in the 403(b) plan for my retirement savings?
- Resolved Question: My employer offers several retirement plans. Which should I participate in?
(Sat, 08 Sep 2007 20:16:16 GMT)
403(b) retirement plan :
My many options include a 401K (which I am maxing out), a Key Savings 457(b) Plan, a Deferred Compensation Plan and a Tax Deferred Savings 403(b) Plan. I was planning to open an IRA for myself and my wife, but should I think about these others first?
- Resolved Question: How would you put an extra $5,000 to use?
(Fri, 31 Aug 2007 11:09:52 GMT)
403(b) retirement plan :
I just landed a side consulting job that's gonna pay me $6,200... which I'm estimating at $5,000 after taxes, for the sake of argument. I do have about $3k in credit card debt, but I'm only paying 3.99%APR on it. I have $11k in student loans, but that's very low interest. And I have a thousand in savings. My employer does have a 403(b) plan (the non-profit sector version of the IRA) where I'd get matching up to 6% of my pay, 4% of which is immediately vested. So I could save the money, us

(Sat, 14 Jul 2007 14:45:27 GMT)
403(b) retirement plan :
I plan to open a 403(b) in August. I have been told that mutual funds are better (and cheaper) than annuities, and so that is what I want to put my money. (I don't intend this question to be a mutual fund vs. annuity debate). My school district sponsors 20 retirement planning companies, and their websites don't seem to distinguish the competition. Some companies include Fidelity, Primerica, Vanguard, Metro Life, Equitable, Putnam, etc. How do I choose which company is best for me whether or no

403(b) retirement plan :
What percentage of my pay should I invest in my 403(b)?
-My employer contributes 3% regardless of what I contribute.
-I am a young single female quickly approaching 30 years old.
-My income is small, since I work for non-profits, and my previous 403(b) only has $9,000 invested.

403(b) retirement plan :
My company is offering this plan to its employees-if you work for the company less than 15 years and you contribute 4% of your salary, the company will then contribute an additional 25% of that contribution up to 1% of your salary.
I currently have a 401K plan from my old employer that just sits and collects on mutual funds until I am old enough to claim it. I rolled over what I contributed when I left into a Roth IRA through my bank. Would I be bouncing around too much having an additional
- Resolved Question: TIAA-CREF or Fidelity for 403(b)? Or both?
(Tue, 06 Feb 2007 20:01:57 GMT)
403(b) retirement plan :
My new employer lets you invest your 403(b) funds in TIAA-CREF or Fidelity (or both). I plan to contribute 5% of my income, which is required to get the 8% employer match (I invest seperately into a Roth IRA). My only experience with retirement plans has been with my Roth IRA and a 401(k) through a large corporation. I am unable to view the 403(b) documentation on these companies' websites until I actually choose which one(s) I want to sign up with. Can anyone offer their take on how these
