- Resolved Question: Nursing Home Trust Fund in Arizona?
(Sat, 31 May 2008 14:37:40 GMT)
Arizona retirement :
My sister is needing nursing home care now since the state deemed over eligibility guidelines for social services home care. Before she can enter the nursing home, she is told it is required she establish a trust fund to the home. My sister is in the end-life stages from cancer; took early retirement and disability. My question is, since she is about $5k over the eligible income guideline, how much of the retirement funds will be turned over to the nursing home? I think SSI funds will all

(Tue, 13 May 2008 18:36:05 GMT)
Arizona retirement :
My mother just turned 78 years old about 2 or 3 months ago. Anyhow, she has been living with my wife and I for the past 20 years. Shes been helping pay off the house, cars, bills, etc with a pension my father left her when he died. Sadly this pension has expired, and she only collects her social security which isnt amounting to enough to warrant keeping her.
My wife and I have been discussing some options and we need to some questions answered.
First, is there such thing as a free state ran

Arizona retirement :
I currently work for the Arizona State government.
I received a paralegal job offer from a small private practice.
I'd be going from salary to hourly.
And moving up in title.
How much of an increase should I ask for?
I would be losing my benefits and retirement but it is closer to where I live and the position is more enticing than what I do now.

- Resolved Question: Need some advice on moving and how it will effect my cats.?
(Mon, 28 Jan 2008 17:07:13 GMT)
Arizona retirement :
About 5 years ago we rescued a semi-tame cat during the winter (NE/SD border - brutal winters). To make a long story short she wound up pregnant, had kittens and since then our little "family" has expanded to 5 four-legged animals and 2 two-legged animals. Surprisingly, I have fallen in love with these furry little critters and they all now live in kitty splendor. My question is - we are nearing retirement and will probably move to a warmer climate in the next year or two; possibly Arizona

- Resolved Question: Why won't my house sell (asked before but with more info this time)?
(Fri, 25 May 2007 01:32:24 GMT)
Arizona retirement :
Okay, I asked this question earlier but evidently didn't share enough specific information.
My dilemma: my house has been on the market for 13 months. I have lowered the price dramatically during that time but still no offers. It is located about two hours north of Phoenix, Arizona, in a beautiful retirement community called Prescott. The home has been freshly painted on the outside, has absolutely stunning views of two well-known mountains, and has pool, tennis court and trailhead access. My
- Resolved Question: What does it cost to live on your part of the country?
(Sun, 20 May 2007 05:26:21 GMT)
Arizona retirement :
I'm just curious what the cost of living is in your area. I live in Northern Arizona. The average wage here is $35,000-$40,000 a year and your average house is $200,000. It's a hot spot for retirement in AZ. Average rent is $800 for a tiny one bedroom. It's kinda ridiculous! How about you?
Also we have no property. Just a house. It is hard to get property here. You could pass sugar to your neighbor's through the window.

- Resolved Question: Is there a difference between social security benefits in California or Arizona?
(Mon, 02 Apr 2007 23:25:37 GMT)
Arizona retirement :
My parents are thinking about moving to Arizona after their retirement. They been working and paying social security benefits in California for the last few decades. Now they're trying to find out if there's any difference in retirement benefits between California or Arizona. I heard that social security benefit based solely on the amount you contributed during your working life, not on where you live when you retire. Is that true? Is there any other potential benefit for retiring in Californi

- Resolved Question: Is Donald Rumsfeld the worst Secretary of Defense in History?
(Tue, 20 Feb 2007 13:55:56 GMT)
Arizona retirement :
BLUFFTON, South Carolina (AP) -- Republican presidential candidate John McCain said Monday the war in Iraq has been mismanaged for years and former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld will be remembered as one of the worst in history.
"We are paying a very heavy price for the mismanagement -- that's the kindest word I can give you -- of Donald Rumsfeld, of this war," the Arizona senator said.
"The price is very, very heavy and I regret it enormously." McCain told an overflow crowd of more than
- Resolved Question: Where's a good place to live in Arizona?
(Thu, 21 Dec 2006 16:48:20 GMT)
Arizona retirement :
My boyfriend and I are thinking of moving to Arizona. We have a small child in elementrary school so of course we need a place with a great education system. He's a truck driver who drives a set of doubles and was told Arizona is the only state other than Michigan (our state) that allows doubles on the roads. I'm just wondering what some good areas are to start researching as far as employment and school systems. I don't want to live in a retirement city nor do I want a city like Phoenix.
- Resolved Question: Which telescope is right for an amateur user?
(Tue, 05 Dec 2006 04:29:19 GMT)
Arizona retirement :
I'm buying my parents a telescope for Christmas, but could use some advice on what would be right for them. They live down in Arizona in a small retirement community, so I don't think light pollution is much of a problem. Their backyard has a concrete slab that the previous owner used for a bolted-down telescope, so there's a level surface to place the scope. They won't be moving it much other than in and outside the house. I'm debating between a Zhumell Dobsonian Reflector (8 or 10 inch)
- Resolved Question: I need some help please...?
(Mon, 20 Nov 2006 22:37:04 GMT)
Arizona retirement :
I am 37, and when I moved to a small town in central/northern Arizona, it was very mellow...a retirement community so to speak. I have been here 7 yrs and within the last yr, it has become overun by the latino community. Do not get me wrong..I am not racist but this is getting bad..as we actually had a drive by 2 weeks ago, 2 houses down from mine...it seems like in the last yr, it has become taken over by wannabe gangs..who feel the need to flash guns wherever they go. This Christmas, I was
- Resolved Question: Arizonans, what do you think of Proposition 107?
(Thu, 05 Oct 2006 21:24:55 GMT)
Arizona retirement :
Under the guise of protecting marriage, Proposition 107 is commonly referred to as the same-sex marriage ban, in an attempt to mislead the voters.
It will, in actuality, not change the legal definition of marriage in Arizona, but it will amend the Arizona Constitution to restrict many types of benefits.
It will bar government entities from offering domestic- partner benefits, such as health care, to their employees who rely on them.
It will take health-care benefits and legal protections
- Resolved Question: Where To Live After Retirement (this is for old farts only)?
(Tue, 12 Sep 2006 06:23:40 GMT)
Arizona retirement :
As we all know, sometimes we come face to face with the fact that it may be time to relocate.
The big question is: where to? Here are some tips.
You can live in Phoenix, Arizona where.....

2. You've experienced condensation on your butt from the hot water in the toilet bowl.
3. You can drive for 4 hours in one direction and never leave town.
4. You have over 100 recipes for Mexican food.

The mans name is Lawrence (Larry) Beck---was married to a lady named Diane, they had 2 kids---one boy & one girl. Larry worked in the Seattle area before moving to Klamath Falls, Ore. in the 80's. He worked as a switchman / brakeman, and would probably be in his mid to late 60's now.
We were friends and had agreed to retire in Arizona----I lost
