His ETS is coming up and he wasn't planning on reenlisting since he had knee surgrey and doesn't want to be a profile along with he can't do his MOS because it requires a clearance and he can't get one.

- Voting Question: Husband has 14 1/2 years in the army, can we draw money form retirement before the 15 yr mark?
(Tue, 03 Jun 2008 20:39:41 GMT)
Army retirement :
Just curious if he can get the $30,000 before the 15 year mark while he's still in Iraq.
We're just exploring our options right now. We haven't decided to go one way or another. My husband plans on staying in longer than 20yrs, and thought that if we paid off all our debts now, we could save roughly $1700 month, and still live very comfortably.

I am medically retired from the Army. I have been on leave and PTDY. (leave from 5/2-5/7, PTDY 5/7-5/27) My effective retirement date is 5/27. Is that normal and how long does it take in that situation? I have relocated from my former duty station to another state. (TX to MD)

- Resolved Question: Does time spent at West Point count towards Army retirement?
(Sat, 03 May 2008 14:39:39 GMT)
Army retirement :
I know that you have a total 8 year (5 years active, 3 in reserve status) commitment after leaving the Academy. However, are you a real member of the U.S. Army while at the Academy, and does that time count towards retirement in any way? I believe the answer here is no, but my dad and I are in disagreement. =) Your help is appreciated.
Please provide VIABLE sources for your answers. I would prefer a website. Thanks.

- Resolved Question: Is there a way to sign up for the Army, but give them a start date 2 months away?
(Sun, 20 Apr 2008 07:19:25 GMT)
Army retirement :
I talked with a recruiter last friday, and he already started trying to get me to agree on a date to road trip down for the ASVAB and entrance exams, so i'm feeling a little bit rushed. On the other hand, I know that some of the Sign-on bonuses may only be good for a limited time, so waiting two weeks could potentially cost me $10,000 or more. If they tell me that the bonuses are only good for a few more weeks, could i sign up right now, but not go to basic training until a month or two from
- Resolved Question: Is the army's retirement plan a pension, or one-time lump sum?
(Sun, 20 Apr 2008 06:34:24 GMT)
Army retirement :
From what i read it sounds like you can retire from the Army after serving 20 years (So i'd be a 42 year old retiree!) at which time they calculate half your pay, multiplied by a factor related to how much you really contributed, to give you what you get for retirement. But is this a big lump sum they give you at once? Or is this something where they begin paying you a pension, where you just get the same size check every month (about half your active pay) until you die, whether that be at a

- Resolved Question: Do we live in fear of the future as much as TV portrays? (This is actually a straightforward question)?
(Mon, 14 Apr 2008 16:47:27 GMT)
Army retirement :
A lot of people plan for retirement at a young age. They fear having to work their whole life. A lot of people live in fear of cancer and all kinds of diseases they can rarely defend against. People fear growing old alone, thinking they will never find a mate.
Perhaps, I have a solution that allows me to live without worry...
I plan on dying by the age of 40.
I'm a risktaker. I'm in the army. I play with gasoline and a homemade flamethrower. I drive my truck like I stole it every day. I f
- Resolved Question: So most of us are voting for wealthy candidates?
(Sun, 13 Apr 2008 16:05:07 GMT)
Army retirement :
Clinton, Obama, and McCain are all wealthy people who are on the news 24/7. There are other candidates running who stand less chance because no one knows about them.
I mean come on Ron Paul only gets money off his retirement off being a doctor and his support from people and U.S. army soldiers. Ralph Nader, another one who speaks the truth and fights for the right cause, lives off of like 25 thousand dollars a year.
Is this a democracy or a plutocracy?

The Pentagon recently found it had too many generals and offered an early retirement bonus. They promised any general who retired straight away his full annual benefits plus $10,000 for every inch measured in a straight line between any two parts of the general's body, with the general getting to select any pair of points he wished.
The first man, an Air Force general, accepted. He asked the pension man to measure from the top of his head to the tip of his toes. Six feet. He walked out with a

- Resolved Question: Should retired Gurkha's retired before 1997 be allowed to live in the UK?
(Mon, 24 Mar 2008 11:05:31 GMT)
Army retirement :
I personally feel that the retired Gurkha's are treated extremely badly by the British government, with much lower army pensions. Many ex Gurkha's, retired before 1997, do not presently have the right to live in the UK even after faithfully serving our country without question for many years as one of our most formidable forces.
Any who agree that Gurkha's and their families deserve full retirement pensions and British citizenship please sign one of the many petitions and hopefully the gove
- Resolved Question: Gurkhas. Should they be allowed to live in the UK?
(Thu, 20 Mar 2008 10:25:18 GMT)
Army retirement :
I think it's absolutely terrible that Nepalese people that have served Great Britain by joining the Gurkha regiment are refused the right to come and live here upon their retirement from the Army. These people are willing to put their lives on the line for us and then we turn our backs on them but allow all sorts of filth to come here instead, especially the scagging crap that wants us to change our ways to theirs or get blown up by their bombs.
Who thinks we should let the honourable Gurkhas

My father served in Veitnam and died in 1991 in Germany in a car accident. He served over 20 years in the Army. - Resolved Question: What prerequisites would you need to be a Correctional Officer? How good would the pay be?
(Mon, 17 Mar 2008 18:23:38 GMT)
Army retirement :
I am almost positive about joing the army, going to school there and eventually coming out, possibly to be a Correctional Officer. I don't plan on living big but I want to have a decent paying job, more than decent would be great. Would joining the military and getting an education there be enough? Would it be better to come out of the military and get a job such as a CO or pursue my career in the military until retirement? Or is there some sort of CO in the military? Personally either sound

Now that you have until your 42nd birthday, I feel as though I have an opportunity to get back in, spend my upcoming 40s in the Guard, and have the retirement to go along with my civilian job's pension.
