(Mon, 09 Jun 2008 18:52:08 GMT)
Ira retirement plan :
An associate with connections in the Obama camp says that as president Obama plans on instituting a Value Added Tax (VAT). If this associate is to be believed, Obama also plans to cancel the tax deductibility of state taxes, raise capital gains taxes, reinstate estate taxes ("death taxes"), lift the cap on the amount of income subject to social security taxes and impose a new ??Patriot? tax with a confiscatory level of penalties for those who give up their U.S. citizenships/LPR. - Open Question: Wondering how much to save for retirement?
(Sun, 08 Jun 2008 02:25:31 GMT)
Ira retirement plan :
I am going to be 28 this year and I have about 15000 of funds in my employer sponsored 401K. I am currently in debt though I have a plan to knock it out next year thereby reducing the funds I send to Satan's spawn each month (the credit card companies). I am thinking about starting a Roth IRA next year as well as I understand you can withdraw the money anytime you may need it (such as an emergency, job loss, etc). With the Roth IRA and the contributions to the 401K, I would be saving a comb

(Mon, 02 Jun 2008 03:53:22 GMT)
Ira retirement plan :
If the U.S. is indeed heading toward another economic depression as some experts seem to think, what will happen to jobs? 401k plans? retirement savings (such as IRA's, savings bonds, etc)? Is there anything that can be done to prepare/safeguard ourselves in the event a depression becomes a reality?
- Voting Question: I am 23 and have $3,000 should I invest in a Roth IRA?
(Sun, 01 Jun 2008 01:33:55 GMT)
Ira retirement plan :
So I finally decided to sell my stock that I had bought through a Employee Stock Purchase and after tax thats what I was left with. Now I have not invested in a retirement plan yet and was very interested in doing so now. I was looking through Fidelity Investments since thats who I sold the stock through. Anyone have any advise on retirement plans? Assuming I retire at 65.
- Voting Question: I need help with an IRA?
(Wed, 28 May 2008 04:06:59 GMT)
Ira retirement plan :
ok im 17 and am wanting to start an IRA. I just plan on putting about $1000 a year into it throughout college, then I will try to adjust that to what I can afford after I get a stable job. I was wondering what the inflation for my fund would be if I retired at the age of 65. Because what would the buying power of my retirement fund if inflation continues to rise as it has throughout the years. say if (for the sake of math) retired at 65 and my IRA matured to $1,000,000 what would the buying po

- Voting Question: How do I determine taxable and non taxible IRA deposits, without proper records??
(Mon, 19 May 2008 11:57:56 GMT)
Ira retirement plan :
Like many people I didn't keep good records. Some years I made non taxable deposits. Other years I had an employer plan and made only taxable deposits. The Gov changed the rules many times, are there records available? Does the Gov track deposits? I'm close to retirement and want to withdraw (taxed deposits) non-taxable amounts first.
- Voting Question: Why can't America replace income tax with a sales tax?
(Fri, 16 May 2008 00:36:19 GMT)
Ira retirement plan :
Actually a flat sales tax WOULD be much more consistent with what the Founding Fathers initially had in mind. At the time, there were tariff taxes and no income taxes until World War I.
Sales Tax concept:
Your income belongs to you, you earned it, nobody else. Consider it to be an automatic IRA retirement fund.
To keep only necessary government services in operation (things only a government can do, like pave roads, defense, establish justice), we will tax dollars only when spent.

Ira retirement plan :
Will I regret working for less money in my 20's? I work as an admissions counselor at a university and it so much fun, but I made 28,000 my first year, 29,000 my second year and I got a promotion and will be working for 33,609 come Sept. 1st. In three to four more years I will be making $40,000 (finally). I will also be 30. - Voting Question: I am maxing out my 401K to catch up on retirement. Can I also set up an IRA?
(Thu, 08 May 2008 14:15:16 GMT)
Ira retirement plan :
I am 57 and earn 125K yearly, have a lot of catching up to do, wanting to retire at 62. I have 20% split into 401K and Roth401K. 50/50 split. My employer contribute 8% of yearly Gross. I will have a $1500/ month pension from a former employer plus I hope the max in SS benifits at 62. My current balance in the 401 K's is 30K. - Resolved Question: Why should I open a traditional IRA or a roth IRA?
(Thu, 08 May 2008 00:13:49 GMT)
Ira retirement plan :
I am trying to learn about the IRA and roth IRA but I don't understand where the benefits are?
In a traditional IRA income taxes are paid by distributions while by a roth IRA income taxes are paid by contributions.
I am not sure if capital gain taxes are paid or not by traditional and roth IRAs, would that be the benefit in investing in those retirement plans, avoiding capital gain taxes?
Where are taxes lower, in a traditional IRA or a roth IRA if I invest in a mutual fund that pays every ye
- Voting Question: Is this good enough?
(Wed, 07 May 2008 17:54:51 GMT)
Ira retirement plan :
I will be starting a state job soon that offers a wonderful 20 year state retirement plan. I also have started a Roth IRA through T. Rowe Price to which I plan of contributing at least 2000 to every year.
I have no debt except for my car, and I am working on getting my personal savings up to $10,000.
I am 32 and a single parent of 2. Am I on track? Does this seem good enough for a sound retirement?
- Resolved Question: Mutual Fund?
(Tue, 06 May 2008 18:26:49 GMT)
Ira retirement plan :
I currently am a government employee and have an employee retirement plan (not 401k). Should I also consider investing in a mutual fund? Would I be able to have a Roth IRA? I don't plan on working for the government for much longer so I would like to start a separate retirement fund.
- Voting Question: What is the best way to reduce taxes through retirement plans?
(Wed, 30 Apr 2008 03:18:46 GMT)
Ira retirement plan :
I'm trying to find ways to reduce our tax liability as much as possible for next year's return, as my husband found a job after finishing college this year and our combined income should be about $102,000 come next April 15.
I earned about $60,000 last year and as joint filers, we got back $1600 from the IRS for 2007. According to the tax tables, (at our current W-4 exemptions) we should owe IRS about $1200 next year if we don't do anything, so I'm trying to find out which retirement plan
- Resolved Question: I contribute my company's 401k match limit. Should I go all out up to $15,500?
(Tue, 29 Apr 2008 16:29:47 GMT)
Ira retirement plan :
My company will match up to 4%. 4% is what I currently contribute. Since it's tax-deferred, I'm tempted to contribute up to the max of $15,500 annually. Or should I invest the money elsewhere, where it could make a greater return? My 401k plan has averaged 6.73% 3 years, 10.10% 5 years, 4.37% 10 years. It was down for last year: 1.11%. I already max out a roth IRA. 23 years to retirement.
- Resolved Question: TSA or IRA???
(Tue, 29 Apr 2008 05:08:38 GMT)
Ira retirement plan :
I am currently 26 years old and have a yearly income of $70,000. I have no major investments, rent an apt and have minimal debt (small student loan, small car loan and no credit card debt). My employer offers a pretty good retirement program and it's composed of 3 parts:
1. Pension at retirement ( 1.5% of my final average monthly compensation X years of credited service)
2. Employer paid retirement saving account (my employer contributes 5% of my salary per period to a savings account

- Voting Question: If I have a pension and I'm young (26), how much should I donate to an additional IRA account (bi-monthly)?
(Thu, 24 Apr 2008 14:18:24 GMT)
Ira retirement plan :
If I have a pension and I'm young (26), how much should I donate to an additional IRA account (bi-monthly)?

Ira retirement plan :
I am 21 years old, and am currently self-employed and plan on being so for a very long time. So, since I will never have a 401k or anything like it from an employer, I have been trying to find a good way to start saving for retirement now. I can only afford to put away about $50 a month, and have been looking into IRA's but I'm having trouble understanding the differences between the Roth and traditional. Can anyone explain the differences in layman's terms and how they affect my yearly taxes
- Resolved Question: 401K Withdrawl question?
(Thu, 17 Apr 2008 18:33:54 GMT)
Ira retirement plan :
I have a 401k with Nordstrom. I was employed there over the summer. Now they told me I have 30 days to do something with my funds it or I would receive a distribution of the funds (I think). The reason they are doing this is because the amount is so little, it's $175. So my question is should I just take the money and pay the penalties or should I do a rollover into a completely new account that I would set up and what sort of account would be recommended?
I have another account with the Teach

- Resolved Question: Life cycle fund question?
(Sun, 13 Apr 2008 19:33:21 GMT)
Ira retirement plan :
I am 38 years old and have had $60000 invested in a traditional IRA fund with a target retirement date of 2040, for the past two years. I bought the shares at $9 and the expense ratio is .82%. Recently, I have been made aware of just how much the expense ratio will cost me over the long-term and so I opened another fund with a target retirement date of 2035. This new fund's shares are $13.50 and the expense ratio is .19%. Both funds yearly returns have performed within 2-3% of each other.
- Resolved Question: What are the best steps to take in retirement planning? Given today's economy how safe are IRA's?
(Sun, 13 Apr 2008 04:03:28 GMT)
Ira retirement plan :
My wife and I are both 31 years old, and we want to start saving for our retirement. We're interested in starting a Roth IRA, but with today's economy, we really don't know if that's the best choice, or with which company to go with. Basically we just need some advice.

(Fri, 11 Apr 2008 23:13:56 GMT)
Ira retirement plan :
