I have a yearly employment contract which runs from July 1 thru June 30 in a N.J. school. In January of this year, we were offered for the first time a post-retirement package with a cash bonus and medical benefits. Being close to retirement age, I accepted the offer in January, but became disabled in February and I am still out on disability now. Last month, my boss asked me to leave my current position as there will be newcomer to replace my post. He offered me a job to the other company because that's my only option. I'm set up to go for full pre-tax 401k contribution of $15,500, so am only half way as of May. Catch-up of $5000 is done for year. OK. B. Hussein Obama is proposing that the cap on social security be removed. This means that companies will be required to pay substantially more in FICA taxes. Since companies generally budget a fixed amount for payroll, how will this increase affect the average worker when the company eliminates the matching contribution for 401K retirement accounts to offset the increase? I don't see any positive benefit for me if the company stop matching my 401K contribution.

My company states that the IRS limits the dollar amount an employee can contribute on a combined standard before-tax and Roth 401(k) basis. For calendar year 2008, the limit is $15,500. I believe that means that both 401k and Roth 401k contributions through my employer are limited to $15,500 for the year.

Retirement company :
I'm just a poor baker who is trying to save for retirement (20+ years to go). Money doesn't come easily so I save as much as I can. I have a 401k (I pay the company's match) and a Roth IRA. I'm hesitant about investing further in mutual funds (I know individual stocks are too risky). My uncle tells me to stay conservative, to stay in bonds and avoid stocks. But he owned a successful business and now he's trying to protect his wealth. I might have to use a different strategy. Does anyone else f
