- Open Question: Why is Obama forcing me to take even bigger loses in my retirement?
(Tue, 05 May 2009 18:04:51 GMT)
I am not a rich man by any means. I have never had a job that produced a six figure income. Over the last 15 years my income has averaged about $33,000 a year while working an average of 50 hours a week.
But I have tried to be responsible. I have paid my bills and tried very hard to not spend to much-to not get over my head. I have watched our older generation struggle to get by on social security and I felt sorry for them. So I have consistently but some money away for retirement. Just a lit

(Tue, 21 Apr 2009 22:11:20 GMT)
I am a recent college graduate who has landed his first job. I have been told that a general rule is to save 15% of your income for retirement. My company has matching funds where if I put in 9%, they will contribute 6% to get the 15%. I understand the basic differences between a 401k and a Roth IRA, but I really don't know what the best option for a young man with lots of time before retirement is. What are the current opinions of the financial wizards?

After losing half my retirement in stocks and watching money market funds hover just above 0%, I've invested in short term bond mutual funds to earn a return of approximately 4.5%. I don't feel very much emotion, if any at all. I do not get "angry", or "sad" as far as I can tell. Since I was a child, I learned to - I suppose - mimic people's emotions. I thought that was normal, as one would learn speech. I'm no longer certain it is anymore.
