- Open Question: I KNOW THE ADVANTAGES OF SMOKING.... AM I RITe...?
(Tue, 10 Jun 2008 19:18:57 GMT)
Retirement housing :
I KNOW THE ADVANTAGES OF SMOKING
* You will always have something to do with your hands.
* To avoid headaches later in the day, always have a cigarette first thing in the morning.
* If you work with explosives, you have a handy method of lighting the fuse.
* Smoking is a good career move if you want early retirement and would like to use up your sick leave.
* On New Years Eve you don't have to go out to the fireworks. Just dip your cigarette into a jar of ground up sparklers.
- Open Question: Over Protective Parents?
(Tue, 10 Jun 2008 18:43:11 GMT)
Retirement housing :
I'm sick of all my classmates hanging at somone's house or going to the mall/cinema everyday. My parents don't let me do anything. I can't go out and play in my own backyard. If I ask if I can go to the mall with a bunch of friends, they say "NO. I'll take you instead." Even if there's still a parent there, they'll have the same answer ready. But I don't go to the mall. They always say they are busy. When I want to volunteer at the retirement home, or join a club. They'll say No. I'm busy. Aft

WASHINGTON ?? The famed bean soup served in Senate restaurants is made up of dried navy beans, smoked ham hocks, onions and a million-dollar tab for the taxpayer.
That menu for financial distress could be about to change as the Senate, following the lead taken by the House more than 20 years ago, moves to privatize the restaurants, coffee shops and cafeterias located in the Capitol and Senate office buildings.
The Senate last week passed a bill authorizing Senate restaurants, now run by th

- Open Question: Can a divorce judge impose a division of property if the other party doesn't want any of the house/retirement?
(Tue, 10 Jun 2008 15:52:01 GMT)
Retirement housing :
My spouse has filed for a divorce. My spouse is not looking for any divison of assets that include the house or retirement. Can a judge impose a division of property even though we agreed on the property/assets? Basically we are parting our separate ways and my spouse wants nothing to do with my retirement or the house. If my spouse isn't seeking alimony, can a judge impose that as well?
Also, since this is an uncontested divorce, do I need a lawyer?

They still give me a check each month to cover their half of the mortgage, which is now "rent". They

- Open Question: My Aunt's adult son won't stop stealing from her!?
(Sat, 07 Jun 2008 11:35:21 GMT)
Retirement housing :
My 78 year old widowed Aunt's 51 year old son lives with her. I hate that he constantly steals from her. He takes money and credit cards from her purse, sells almost anything in the house. My Aunt is a devout catholic, I think this is the main reason she hasn't kicked the jerk out of her house. He's not retarded, has a part-time job, but is a drunk and complete looser.
I get so mad when she calls and tells us that she can't find her credit card, or her purse. Then he mysteriously 'finds' it.

This I do not care about, but if we have a house I don't want to have to sell up or move because his son got the house too.
So how can I protect myself? Can i hold it in trust for his child until I die? Or should I just insist on having separa
- Voting Question: Buying house at a low price from grandma in order to have more equity in it. Partially gifted. Implications?

Retirement housing :
My grandmother is moving into a retirement home and I am selling my house and buying hers. She is going to sell it to me at a below market price. Are there any tax implications here? Basically she is sort of gifting some of it to me since it would appraise for more. I will get it for 20 - 30k below what it might appraise at. I am also wondering if I can use this as equity towards a down payment / avoiding PMI. Anybody that has an info or advice please share.
