Open Question: Benefits after military medical retirement?
(Fri, 12 Mar 2010 01:48:34 GMT)
Ok i have asked this before in a different way and i am asking again maybe someone can give me some insight. I know about the VA and we have a lawyer we see tomorrow but i was just trying to get and idea. We are worried about keeping our medical right now were sitting at80% disability rating with 75% of our base pay on temporary retirement where he will have to go in every 18 months for review and it can get changed. I know you keep you medical benefits at where we are sitting now what is the lowest rating you can go to for your disability rating i think it is 30% and still keep your medical benefits. I know if you get less than 30% they give you a pat on the back and a severance package but over i believe you keep your benefits. Am i wrong does anyone know because i cannot seem to find it in any info about it anywhere. Oh also does anyone know if we keep our dental?? HELP PLZ!

Open Question: Tax Refunds being held because of husband's old debt?
(Tue, 09 Mar 2010 20:00:21 GMT)
Last year we didn't get over half our federal refund back because of a 2005 tax return. I was unable to get any info as to why because I wasn't married to my husband then. He said he called and it was because he had to take some retirement out that year and they must of not taxed enough. Well this year, we didn't get our state back. They told me that it was because of an adjusted gross on the federal return during 2005 and it didn't match up with the state. According to the state it had nothing to do with retirement. My husband claims it does and I just don't understand. If he filed jointly with his ex that year, wouldn't she be responsible for half of the taxes due? They have held a total of $3500 and saying we still owe $500.00 more. Can someone explain this to me?

Voting Question: Can I go to an accredited university while collecting unemployment?
(Sun, 07 Mar 2010 22:04:04 GMT)
I work in telecom in Texas, and my current employer has occasional "early retirement packages" where I can get a lump sum payment and uncontested applications for unemployment benefits if I voluntarily terminate my employment (like say, if my position is moving to an office out of state, etc). I am pretty sure you can't apply for goverment student loans while receiving unemployment checks, but would it be possible to pay out of pocket for community college or re-training while I am on unemployment? I thought I remembered a law against this the last time I was laid off (mid 90s). Thanks for any info.

Resolved Question: Oh God..www.esmarttax.com keeps calling me a liar!?
(Fri, 26 Feb 2010 02:05:57 GMT)
This year I decided to use an 'approved' third party site accessed thru www.irs.gov. After filling in ALL the following info: 1. One full time job during 2009 (Form W-2) 2. Got fired from above job and cashed out my 401K ( Form 1099-R ) 3. Cashed out a savings acct from above employers retirement plan (another 1099-R) 4. Whilst looking for job got unemployment benefits (Form 1099-G) 5. Towards end of 2009 hooked up with shady temp agency (Form W-2) 6. Proof of payments made to Roth IRA totalling a whopping $650 from 2008 through April 15th 2009 (Form 5498) After entering all that info into esmarttax it comes back and says "REJECTED DUE TO INCORRECT AGI" So I called the IRS and the automated system gives me the 5 digit PIN which is basically my AGI but without the comma. I enter it again and still.....Rejected. I've typed it in, copied and pasted the numerical text over. Still rejected. So now, since my tax return hasn't officially been filed...Do I just leave the info on esmarttax.com's website and go to another site or just do my own damn taxes?

Resolved Question: Disability and job applications?
(Sun, 21 Feb 2010 12:48:28 GMT)
Hi there, I have anxiety disorders, OCD, and bipolar II, and they really get in my way and have drastically affected my life, especially recently. I used to have great jobs and was really moving ahead in life, but the pressure and anxiety and emotional crud got in the way, and now I wait tables and babysit. Obviously, this isn't what I want to be doing the rest of my life. I need to think about $$ for retirement, and I REALLY need health insurance and other benefits. SO I was thinking about applying for a government job, but I'd been dragging my heels because I've been anxious about the stress, especially the interview process. Then I saw on USAjobs.com that they actively seek folks with disabilities and make accommodations for them. However, you obviously have to be registered with the gov't as being disabled. I'm positive I'd be approved, so that's not an issue... What I'm mainly worried about now is what happens AFTER I get put "in the system" with a registered disability. Does this then become public information that could come back and bite me in the behind? If I ever applied somewhere else, would my potential employer be able to find this info? What about health insurance? Would the rates go up? What do I need to know before I attempt this? The nice part about being registered would be the anxiety relief; I spend so much time trying to hide my issues, especially at work. If I started out in a job where people knew what to expect (some days I'm pretty awkward and not a good conversationalist; other days I'm completely fine), things would be much easier. A lot of my "bad days," anxiety-wise, are caused by my worries about being fired because I put someone off. If they expect and accept that I am this way, I think I could do well at the job, providing it isn't based solely on working/socializing with others Thanks so much for your feedback!:0)

Resolved Question: Dependancy on the FAFSA...?
(Fri, 19 Feb 2010 17:32:29 GMT)
I am 24 years old so I know that I am not able to put my parents information on my FAFSA anymore. I was just curious, however, to know if I'll get more aid now that I am on my own or if I would have gotten more aid if I still could put my parents info on it. Here is my situation: -I took home $35,000 in 2009. -I live on my own and pay rent. -My father is deceased and my mother has no income (she is on disability and collecting railroad retirement). -I have another sister also enrolled in college So, as you can see, I have been living on my own and paying my own bills for quite a while with no help from my mother. In past years, I received the full pell grant. So now that I am considered an independant because I am 24, is this going to give me less financial aid than the years before? Will I even be eligible for the pell grant anymore?

Resolved Question: intro to chemical engineering?
(Sun, 14 Feb 2010 19:01:34 GMT)
I'm currently taking some entry level Chemical Eng. classes and i'm finding myself struggling to find resources to learn from. I read the book of course, also search the the internet for more info on concepts that i'm not fully grasping. My current line of teachers are all near retirement and not very helpfu(no engineering tutors on campus either)l. I'm not blaming them, because i'm completely comfortable using the internet and other avenues to learn. Although, unlike my math and physics classes i'm having a hard time finding a good source to help me with my engineering courses. So, i'm looking for some suggestions on where I can get help and maybe what would help me in studying for engineering courses. Thank you

Resolved Question: I have a bunch of 401 K's accumulated over a 30 yr period, with little to no data/ how do I?
(Wed, 10 Feb 2010 17:07:53 GMT)
I have worked a lot of jobs and became vested in 10 or 12 plans. I find that after a divorce and a few uprootings and roadtrips, and a fire, I have no info on any of these retirement accounts, some of them I would like to rollover, the others I would just as soon ' take the money and run ' as I am finally building a house and trying to settle down...how can I track these things down so I can get a real time list of all of them, and make a decision on these???

Resolved Question: New, possibly LIFE-CHANGING info. Not sure what to do with finding out I have an IQ of 142! Advice, please?!?
(Mon, 08 Feb 2010 05:39:37 GMT)
I apologize in advance for this question being so long! I am a college graduate but presently a stay-at-home mother. I had a battery of medical tests performed, which incidentally included an extensive IQ test. I found out several months ago that, although I have what the neurologist called a "slow processor," my IQ is 142!!! He equated it to having a computer with a 512 gig hard drive but 128 megs of RAM. As long as speed isn't an issue, I have tremendous capability. Needless to say, I was completely floored at my IQ score. I’m considering going back to college for a post-grad degree part-time, but I'm not sure if I should, or what to major in. My child is 5 years old. There are a lot of challenges and the workload is heavy being a divorced mother. But I don't want to waste what nature has given me! Now that I am aware of my high IQ, I feel an obligation to do something significant, leave a positive impact on the world. I previously majored in Animal Behavior, (half psyc and half bio). Research is intriguing, but difficult to find a job without a Doctorate. Any ideas for careers that are similar but have more job availability with a Master's? I don't know if I should even try at my age (late thirties). The debt incurred would be large. Would I have enough time in the work force before retirement to make the debt worthwhile? I am concerned that maybe I should just focus on my son, who is also gifted. (He's 5 and reading chapter books and doing simple math problems in his head.) If I take time away from focusing on his tutelage for my own schooling and career, I may not be able to be there for him in the way I feel I should to help him reach his full potential. I’ve never been so troubled and confused. I knew I was smart but never expected to find out that I am a genius! I need solid input. I am looking for opinions from every source I can find. It's difficult to talk to family because I think that if I told many of them about my IQ, they would somehow look at me differently. Humility is considered a great asset in our bunch! Considering the life situation, having a young child, osteoporosis and related health issues, etc., what would you do if you were in my shoes? Go back to college or not, and if so, for which major? Thanks for reading this lengthy question!

Resolved Question: How has your TSP worked out for you in the military and any advice?
(Fri, 05 Feb 2010 02:29:40 GMT)
Husband and I recently started up our TSP. We're 23, and he's 1 1/2 years in and plans to go the full 20 to retirement. We started the first few months all in the safe G fund since the economy sucked, and now have switched it all over to the Lifecycle 2040. Currently we have about 2300 in the account with 114 going in monthly. I was curious how other military members faired with the TSP over the years. Make money, lose money? It's a little hard to make recommendations with differing economies, but any advice to us? I also would like to start up a Roth IRA, but know nothing about them. How much to put in each month? What's the return? Any info would help really.

Resolved Question: Is theremore: ROH Males or TNA Females? E-fed info inside?
(Wed, 03 Feb 2010 17:52:39 GMT)
Okay first, it will be a voting e-fed, so just pick, do you want a: 1) WWE E-fed 2) TNA E-fed 3) Fantasy E-Fed 4)WS E-fed Here is an example of what i will do, i will use a WWE storyline as an example: At elimination Chamber, it is down to Sheamus, Kofi, Cena and HHH, when all of a sudden John Cena tries to leave the structure, then it is down to HHH vs Sheamus, cena comes back in and attacks Sheamus but the game protects him, and then Cena pins HHH, and sheamus retains. Cena anmnoyed promo, interrupted by HBK, which eventually leads to this match: HBK Cena vs Sheamus HHH. HHH wins after pinning Cena, Post match Edge spears Sheamus, then calls out chris Jericho who comes out as champ but then gets ambushed by HBK and Ted Dibiase, then HBK issues the challenge. Next week HBK, Edge and Ted vs Sheamus, Jericho and Taker. Taker pins edge, followed by an assualt from HBK. Then on RAW, edge says he is challenging Jericho to a TLC Match, when out comes Christian who says it was He and edge who invented TLC, So they should team up, but for tonight- edge vs jericho, which edge wins. But out comes hist who says that an all- sd match on raw? Makes edge vs cena, then cena turns heel adn wins, and at TLC there is a TLC Match after a comnplex feud: Jericho and Christian vs Edge and Matt Hardy HBK vs Undertaker vs John Cena vs HHH Sheamus vs Kane- retirement match That is an example of storylines! Here is an example of a match i can do, i will use a TNA Example of the current feud, AJ and Joe, and put them in a pure wrestling match. AJ is on the top rope with Flair and 2 girls holding his hands for balance, waiting for Joe to get up when all of a sudden Joe kips up and puts AJ in position for a muscle buster, but the girls pull AJ against Joe whilst Flair throws the ref out from behind, he low blows Joe, but More referee's ban AJ's gang from ringside as AJ Stands over joe, then he runs against the ropes and drops his knee to the face of Joe, and picks up Joe, Looks like he may set up Joe for the styles clash, picks his back up oh, look he has him in a powerbomb position, and just drops his groin on his knee. Now big clothesline from AJ. Up top looks set for a spiral tap, hits it! 1,2 kick out!, Then AJ Gets up Joe and throws him out the ring, the ref gets to a 8 count when Joe (on his knees) slides a chair in the ring, which distracts the ref, then AJ Grabs it walks out and lifts it up, but the ref grabs it off him, AJ Turns round in protest, the ref has none of it. Oh look! Rear naked choke on the concreat, 6 seconds later the ring out count starts, and up until 7 joe has it applied then Joe steps back on the Apron Ric Flair comes back out and stands on the over end of the apron, joe runs at him with his elbow, Flair drops down and pulls the ropes down so Joe falls out the ring, starting the 10 count again. AJ Is in for 8, and Joe in just before 10, both are down, when AJ Gets up he goes to stomp on Joe, but joe rolls out the way and out the ring, climbs up the rope, but AJ meets him and goes for a superplex, then it is reversed as Joe cross bodies him, and turnsd round, Rear Naked Choke, Low blow from AJ, he was right next to the ropes, then does something cheap like that, now looks for the 450 splash, and hits it. he hits it, 1...2... kick out, He gets him up and goes for the styles clash, headbutt to the balls, now joe rolls him up his shoulders straight into the muscle buster, AJ Jumps out and is fleeing the Impact Zone, walking backwards, but Earl Hebner, the ref Flair earlier low blowed just throws back in the ring, now we have a onfrontation, low blow to ric Flair from Hebner!!! Look inside the ring, AJ is distracted, Muscle Buster, gets him up again, Muscle buster. 1!2!3! These were examples of what this e-fed has in store, it will be an e-fed you decide on, everything like name, who wins matches and i will just make it look good, there will also be a pole about the e-fed each time.

Resolved Question: Do cops somtimes intentionally give people tickets for selfish readons?
(Wed, 03 Feb 2010 01:20:15 GMT)
I'm 16 btw andI don't know much about law enforcement. But i just heard about some "quota" thing where cops sometimes give people tickets just to meet a quota at the end of the month or to help their retirement fund. Can someone give me more info on this and tell me if it's true or not?

Voting Question: Looking for the name of a website for finding lost retirement money?
(Fri, 29 Jan 2010 21:11:12 GMT)
I was told there is a website that you can put you personal info in and find out if any money of yours is still sitting in a retirement fund somewhere from like a previous job. I started it retirement plan about 10 years ago at a former employer that had a few dollars in it. I have since lost track of the company I had invested with. Anyone know how to find out this information?

Voting Question: Is it possible for food servers to claim the money their required to tip out to the restaurant every shift?
(Tue, 26 Jan 2010 06:50:05 GMT)
My employer just informed me that im now required to tip out 18% of my daily total food sales instead of 15%of my actual daily tips to the restaurant. I did the math and over one year I tip out at least $2800.00 of my earnings. On top of that my employer only claims about 20% of my tips on each pay check. Now i wanna claim my taxes and im not sure if i should say i have unreported tips or not. I have dependents so the more i make the more i get back but im afraid if i claim my actual wages ill end up owing more than i get back. Also, i realize the importance of putting into my retirement and unemployment/disability (god forbid something ever happen to my job) and the effect that claiming less income can and will have on them. I live in CA, what am i legally required to tip out and how can i claim my wages while still protecting my job? Any info is greatly appreciated! THANKS!

I was reading wiki and it says that The Rock will be returning around the summer time to host Raw,but he says that he doesn't just want to return to the WWE just to host, he wants to return to host and do something special that will entertain the fans in ways that they haven't been entertained in years. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dwayne_Johnson#Retirement_and_part.E2.80.93time_WWE_appearances_.282004.E2.80.93present.29 What are your thoughts about that? Resolved Question: Military divorce questions...?
(Thu, 21 Jan 2010 22:11:21 GMT)
The office at JAG is closed for now, but I plan on making an appointment asap. So, I was hoping for the best info I could get before I consult an attorney. Husband is Army E-4 with 7.5 years in, no articles 15's. DC BAH is around $1790. Been married the last 4.5 years of that. I am legal resident of Maryland, his is Hawaii or home of record is in Montana. No kids. Neither one of us cheated. He called it irreconcible differences. We have always had separate checkings and savings account, retirement funds, etc. Only real debt is car @$7750 left. He plans to have me move out of the residence at the end of March since his LPN at Walter Reed starts in early May. He plans for us to sign a legal separation agreement at end of March since in the state of MD, a couple must be legally separated for a year before they can get an absolute divorce. MD says it is an equal distribution state. SO, question is how much is he required by law, if any, to pay me in support? We'd still be legally married until April 2011. He says I will get my health & dental insurance still and that he will pay me $700/month and pay the car off & put it only in my name(will be around 1.5-2 years left in payments). He's been planning this for so long and knew so many of the laws, and it came as a shock to me when I thought we were about to just have a serious talk about the relationship. He says we are not happy and not fair to one another to stay together. I have gone through a series of emotions. Even when I got to the point where I started getting mad, I was using a normal tone of voice, but asking very direct questions. Last night he just threatened to take away some of the monthly $budget. I want it to work out, but he's already made up his mind and only has to wait due to the law. He does not want to go to marital counseling. Renting a room here to keep my job in a high cost of living area, is a tough choice since hard to find another job. My family is in Alabama so I'd probably move back there. I make only $14/hr here & once I did find a job in AL, it might be only $12/hr. I currently work as an 1:1 aide at a private school for emotionally disturbed students and also have experience with autistic spectrum disorder. What legal suggestions and tips do you have? Thank you for your time in reading this and offering advice.

(Thu, 21 Jan 2010 16:17:59 GMT)
So basically the best teacher I ever had was my High School industrial arts teacher. He left my high school the end of my Sophmore year and I haven't seen him since then, and running into him at the State Fair (while he was in the beer tent-and for a Sophmore girl and her friend seeing any teacher drinking was reaaally funny lol.) This was about 5 years ago and have just wanted to get back in contact with him and see how his retirement was (found out from google) and tell him about what's going on with me. I feel slightly weird for saying this but I googled him and actually on the first link he's listed on a coach roster with his contact info and cell number. The other pages are about his retirement. I know almost everyone has googled somebody before, so I don't find it tooo weird. Lol Oh and no I'm not some random student he taught he won't remember, lol I was his favorite cuz he said he'd miss me most when he was left...basically I just need help on what to text! Just Hi? I knew a couple other people on that roster actually so I think I was going to mention that too? And even though he's old I'm pretty sure he texts and is up on technology cuz he taught my video making class too. Any help would be great! Thanks! Jelly_Beanzz- I asked for an opinion on what to text not your own personal opinion on my situation. Thanks. I'm sorry you've never experienced an awesome teacher that impacted your life, made school actually fun and such. And Georgina- good idea I'll probably just do something like that. :) I'm sorry but if you're a teacher your whole life you don't do it because it's your and job and it pays good. You teach to make a difference in kids lives. And if I was a teacher I would LOVE to hear from my past students to see how far they're coming in life and knowing that I slightly helped in their journey.

Voting Question: Questions about the army. Enlisting, retiring, etc..?
(Tue, 19 Jan 2010 17:11:01 GMT)
My husband is taking the ASVAB right now, and I have many questions. I know some of them are jumping the gun a little, but here goes. 1- How fast will the process move from this point forward. When can I expect him to be going to basic/AIT? 2- Will there be a gap between his basic and AIT training? 3- When will we find out where he will be stationed after basic and AIT? With the exception of deployment, will I and our children be able to come with him? Will he be able to come home and help us move or will I need to meet him there with all of our belongings? 4- He has a degree in Culinary Arts. Will he be able to utilize this in the army and will it effect the rank he enters in as? 5- What are some specifics that he needs to be aware of when signing the contract. What does he need to know/do to get the most out of it? 6- I understand that most contracts are 8 years. 4 active, 4 inactive. Does the inactive time count towards time served for retirement? Can he sign a contract that does not include inactive time? Please direct me to any sites that would give me a lot of detailed info and not just basics. I am a research junkie. Thanks in advance! 7- Do all jobs get paid the same if you are the same rank? Ex. Do an E-1 cook and an E-1 infantry man get paid the same salary?

Resolved Question: What should i do in this matter?
(Mon, 18 Jan 2010 08:13:36 GMT)
i just got married with my husband on dec 2009 and just for your info, we have known each other for a little over a year before we got married. I realize that after a few weeks into the married life, i found myself crying and upset of his attitude and so called maturity. i found out that he did not pay 3 years of taxes ( which i consider a lot for a sufficient person ), but he has a new motorcycle, ducati, a flat screen tv and made plans about re painting the whole house. isnt it crazy? i also found out that he declared bankruptcy because he has a lot of debt? i am shocked to find that he doesnt have any savings at all, no savings for retirement or for emergencies and anything like that. i am worried. i think i chose the wrong guy. i want a kid, he wants one but i don`t think he can ever support me physically and mentally with this kind of attitude. I have already talked to him many times and i gave him his own space to think about it ( because i know most men don`t like women who are too controlling ) but he never do anything to improve this attitude and he never tell me how he feels, what he thinks, what`s our plan next and whatever. he prefers to watch the TV than to spend sometime and talk with me,. what should i do? i am considering a theraphy or counseling. i don`t like being in the situation where i may be in a difficult situation ( which may be prevented before that happens ). I have my own money (saved up since 6 years ago) for emergencies, i have a steady job and most importantly, i have faith that everything will work out fine. please i need some advice. serious people only.

Resolved Question: I need some info. on Chrysler Financial...?
(Sat, 09 Jan 2010 04:03:08 GMT)
I am not interested in people complaining about their services, I just have some basic questions if you would please steer away from the rest. I am about to start working for Chrysler Financial, and... 1. What are the benefits for Chrysler Financial? I know what they have, but is it Blue Cross Blue Shield, what are the plans, retirement details, etc? 2. Is there a lot of room for advancement? 3. I am starting out at $13.65/hour, what are the raises? Are they every 6 months, year or what? 4. What positions within Chrysler Financial make more than $100,000 or really close to it? (I ask this, because I have my MBA and did not go to school for nothing) I would like to make this eventually. Thanks for everyones time, if you want to add more comments about the company of Chrysler Financial for anything at all, please do, but try not to knock the company over the head too hard, they are trying to re-model themselves, so of course there will be a lot of negative obstacles to overcome.

Resolved Question: What kind of investing gives you a dividend or check every month, etc?
(Tue, 05 Jan 2010 01:29:21 GMT)
I have a retirement account (403b) that I invest money into every month. However, I'd like to expand my investing and do the "stocks and bonds" thing to get a dividend as "income" on a regular basis. How does one go about setting something like this up? All of the people I know that trade dont speak "little guy" so I am asking here for the n00b investor info.

Voting Question: Online Finance/Budgeting Software for Couples?
(Sat, 02 Jan 2010 06:21:53 GMT)
Hi everyone! Need some advice here... I am looking into different (free) online software options - my man and I are trying to organize and consolidate our finances. I have been researching and so far, have found the following options: Mint, Quicken Online (they bought mint so it seems their basic version IS mint now), Geezeo, Wesabe, Rudder, Yodlee, Buxfer, Expensr, BudgetPulse, MoneyStrands Does anyone in the Yahoo Answers community have any opinions on any of these, based on experience with them hopefully? Pros/con for specific sites, that sort of thing? Remember, we are trying to create one profile that would encompass each of our individual AND joint bank accounts/credit cards/loans (investments/retirement too, maybe?) and collect them all together in one place, so that either of us can log on anytime and work with all of this info easily. Also, hopefully, we'd like a program that allows us to pay bills directly...? Thoughts? Thanks!

Resolved Question: Need info on Bendix prototype aircraft from 1944-1945?
(Thu, 24 Dec 2009 18:49:26 GMT)
Trying to help my father-in-law locate information on a prototype aircraft he worked on at the Bendix Aviation Corporation in Detroit Michigan around 1944-45. Been all over the 'net and the closest I've come is this bit from http://www.helis.com/UpTo50s/f_bendix.php: "After Mr. Bendix’s retirement, the Bendix Corporation founded the Bendix Aviation Division in 1944. This small organization in Detroit developed several aircraft, including a 2 place all metal light plane and an amphibian. For a variety of reasons, none of these aircraft obtained certification by the government or went into production " My FIL says it was a high wing aircraft, looked like a Stinson (taildragger). Didn't think it ever went into production, like the above quote indicates. Anyone out there have any pictures, drawings, info or know anyone who used to work at Bendix Aviation in Detroit? Thanks in advance!

Resolved Question: State of IN... looking to find out legal rights to property, savings, etc 2nd wife has if hubby dies/no will?
(Thu, 24 Dec 2009 17:00:37 GMT)
I am a 2nd wife. There are/will be no children from this union. Trying to figure out what my rights and expectations are if my husband passes away without a will in place. He does not believe a will is important, since my name is on the house, the cars, the bank account and I am listed as primary benificiary on retirement accounts. Research is showing me that he is wrong, that Indiana law states that his adult children from his 1st marriage can take me to court and toss me out on my butt with only 25% of anything we have built together during this marriage. Anybody have any concrete info. I can try to use to convice him that he needs to rethink this? Thank you in advance!

Resolved Question: Wanted to know true facts about Naval Reserves and chances on getting deployed nowadays?
(Wed, 16 Dec 2009 05:35:05 GMT)
Well im prior enlisted in the Navy and im thinking about joining the Naval Reserve for extra money on the side and to add years to the 20 year retirement mark of holding a government job. Well so far what i have heard is that nobody has been deployed to the Persian gulf for a while in Houston, Tx. And that they will ask the people in the unit if they want to be deployed or not and that nobody is obligated to deploy unless they want too. I have been deployed before and i just dont want to be away from family for 6+ months. 2 weeks out of the year is fine though. Also they have said that you can choose to stay longer if you wanted to make extra money during your 2 week out of the year thing. So they call this being augmentated or something like that? Well if anybody is actually in the Naval Reserve, i would appreciate it if you can help me out with giving some info on this question or let me know any facts on life as a Naval Reserve. Thanks in advance.

Resolved Question: Having a problem with a co-worker at my job, how should i deal? Kinda long.. any info appreciated.?
(Sat, 12 Dec 2009 14:46:43 GMT)
Ok i have worked at my job for just over 3 years, i love my job and 90% of my co-workers are awesome people who i love to be around. But there's this one woman who is getting less and less tolerable as the years go by. When i started working there in 2006 i noticed as the holidays approached she would get sad, depressed, and distant. Trying to be a good friend i inquired as to what had her so down. learned one of her kids had passed away the year before on the 31st of Dec and it was devastating for her. It was a Heath Ledger type deal where they simply found him dead in a hotel room. He was 24 or 25 yrs old. Well the first couple years i knew her i always excused her sad, mopey behavior because i understand there's no statue of limitations on grief and it is hard. I myself have lost family that was close and i went thru depression, suicide all that and i went to counseling got help and i am better now thanks to all that. This woman is starting to wear out her welcome so to speak. This year will be almost 5 years since her son died and she's getting worse each year. She refuses to allow us to listen to x-mas music at work for the holidays because it makes her too sad to be a functional employee. She refuses to get grief counseling or get on anti-depressants because she says they won't help. She talks about hiding in her closet and wanting to die because she's so sad. She tells any one else with a problem or issue that their stuff isn't as sad or depressing as hers and she downplays anyone Else's grief as not being as bad as hers because people don't understand what it's like to lose a child. She went so far as to tell me when i lost my grandfather to cancer that it wasn't a big deal and that you expect your grandparents to die before you so it's not traumatic. Even though i spent 1 year in a deep depression and tried committing suicide over it it's still not as sad and terrible as her son dying. I'm getting fed up with this woman, i have tried helping her, we have all suggested finding a counselor for her and she refuses. She claims she tried a counselor for 1 session and she didn't like what they had to tell her so she left and never went back. Now management also agrees this woman is a Debbie Downer of sorts but no one says anything to her about it. She is 6 years from retirement and i think that has a lot to do with it. I don't want to have to spend the next 6 years walking on eggshells 365 days a year for this woman. I understand grief is hard but shouldn't you start to recover at some point? The other thing that is irritating is that we work in health care and have to watch training videos throughout the year. Last year we had to watch a MRSA video and the CEO of our hospital was in the video because her son had passed away from MRSA. For 30 minutes of the video the CEO talks about how her son died and she wants to educate people so they dont go thru what she did. This co-worker of mine was exempt from the watching the video because it was to upsetting and she refused. She didnt even try to watch it she just heard what was in it and freaked out. How can i handle this women? I care about her and she's a sweetheart but every winter for about 3 months she is inconsolable and intolerable. They rest of the time she's better but you still have to watch what you do and say. PS: i'm putting this in womens health because she's a girl and it is a health issue. I didn't see a grief section and i think i'll get better answers in this section because more people come here. Thanks everyone. PSS: Please star this if you think you know someone who can give me some good info?

Resolved Question: Need some info about finance and money please! 10 points.?
(Thu, 03 Dec 2009 17:00:13 GMT)
Ok, so I'm only 23 yrs old and need to get some info/advise. I work a full time job and make ok money. I would like to know a little more about finance and saving money. I currently am debt free and save $600-$700 each month and put it in my savings account. I have great credit and rental history. I would like to buy a house when I turn 25. I should have about 35k in my savings by then and I want a $100k to $125 k house. I was wondering if it's better to put down a large amount of down payment on a house and if that will lower my monthly mortgage amount? Or if I should just save most of my money and only put a small down payment? Also, I would like to know a little more about retirement...how does that work? Do people save money through out their lives so that they have that money to live off of when they retire? I'm just a little confused and don't have parents to go to for advise or questions. I've been on my own since I was 16. Thanks for answering! :)

Resolved Question: Rolling over 401K into a New Plan info needed?
(Mon, 23 Nov 2009 18:38:00 GMT)
I have $642 that I accumulated at my last job in 401K. I want to roll it over into a new retirement plan. I can choose from Ameriprise Financial, ETrade Financial, Merrill Lynch, or TD Ameritrade. I know nothing about this kind of stuff. Which would be better? Will I earn interest having that money sit in there until I retire? Do I have to continue to put money in every year? Do any of these companies charge me for having my money in with them? Any info would be great.

(Mon, 23 Nov 2009 06:00:16 GMT)

(shes supporting me with her social security and retirement, shes 57. and its tough for us. im not sure how id ever tell her) 2) can i keep my doctor visit private for awhile even if im on my parents insurance? 3) how to prepare being 17, what i can do now to get ready and such. 4) any other wise info. thanks, and please no hurtful comments, i just want advice.

Resolved Question: money and job wise is this any gooood?
(Sun, 08 Nov 2009 10:55:05 GMT)
If I stay at my job for 8 years, on £13,000 roughly a year, for 8 years, I could end up with around £106,000. However, I would hope in those years, it's possible I was able to be promoted, the maximum wage I would get a year would be roughly £16,000, so if I stay for 8 years on maximum wage, it's way more than £106,000.... Over eight years, is that good? If I'm looking into moving abroad and have any early retirement because I don't need to worry about a pension because it's seen to by my employers. I know what I am talking about, the money is not to the exact pound and penny, nothing here is about from the info on the pension, it's just a rough outlet, anyway though, is that good money in 8 years, is it actually worth working here for that much money or not....? Bearing in mind, a pension on top of that. Thanks well, a life where i am happy, but not necessairly over the top, one TV in the living room, a fairly nice sized house, 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms in a nice area, i dont want a huge glitzy life etc, i guess i should have added more info...

Resolved Question: Help me with the conditions for my if statement in C++?
(Sun, 08 Nov 2009 07:44:23 GMT)
Okay...so, here's some background info: I am writing a program to calculate the gross salaries and a bunch of other financial stuff from info from a input file. The input file includes the skill level of the employee, which affects the payrate of the employee and what benefits that employee is qualified for. It includes a benefit code, which determines which benefit that employee opted for. It also includes some other things, but I don't think they're relevant for this question. So, if the employee is a level 1, they are not qualified for benefits (benefit = 0). All the variables are private in the class, so I set up a Set_Benefit() function that, if the input for benefit is valid (between 0 and 3), it will set the private variable "benefit" in the class, otherwise, it is kept as a variable outside the class called "code". Then, the next function Set_Retirement(), needs to validate some conditions, but because of the Set_Benefit() function, there are two different conditions I need to check. if (level == 1 and benefit != 0) OR if (level == 1 and code != 0) How do I do this? I tried to write: if (level == 1 && benefit != 0 || level == 1 && code != 0) BUT, will this be true when I don't want it to? I am a little confused as to how this would work. If the above didn't make a whole lot of sense, here's a small portion of my code: int EMPLOYEE::Set_Benefit(int & code){ //"code" is read in from the input file in the client/driver program int error; if (code >= 0 && code <= 3) { error = 0; benefit = code; Calc_Net(); } else error = 1; return error; } int EMPLOYEE::Set_Retirement(float & ret, int code){ int error; // THIS IS THE PROBLEM LINE: if (level == 1 && benefit != 0 || level == 1 && code != 0) error = 1; else if (level != 4 && ret != 0) error = 2; else if (ret >= 0 && ret <= 5) { error = 0; percent = ret; Calc_Contribution(); Calc_Net(); } else error = 3; return error; } I hope that made some sense. I am pretty new to programming, so please be gentle. ;) Thank you SO much! It works now! :D Yay!

Voting Question: A lot of questions on the military.?
(Sun, 08 Nov 2009 03:50:10 GMT)
Little info about me: I'm a senior in high school, I'm pretty smart, I take honors classes right now. My brother(AF), father(NAVY), grandfather(ARMY), and my brothers(AF) wife are all in the military, I don't really want to talk to them about it because I don't want my mom to freak out (I'm the youngest, protective issues). This is a recent career choice for me, around 4 days ago recent. I've thought about it before, but I'm actually REALLY considering it right now. I'm going to join the air force. My reasons for joining the military - Steady pay check, structure, saying I served our country, possible retirement (if I stay for 20 years) I just have a few questions about the military: I have the chance to play college football (not guaranteed, but I'm pretty sure I can get into any d2 school I want to) Would this be a better offer than the military? Any bonuses that I could pick up easily before I join, like language, or something? I might be able to qualify for Spanish if I took some classes? I looked at the MOS's on the air force's website, and I don't know if that's all of them. I really want to do something that's medical related, because that's what I'll be doing when I get out of the military. Either that or tech-related, I love technology. I'm just afraid of getting bored by the repetition of tech. Medical presents new challenges all the time (I know army is the best for medical, but whatever) If there's a good tech job that won't get that boring I'd like to know about that too. So, could you tell me some MOS's that involve tech or medical that are the best? I was kind of looking at CSAR. How fast do you get rank in the air force? If I were to get deployed overseas, and if I was married, would my wife (who would be a nurse) be able to work on the hospital on base? Or would she have to sit and twiddle her thumbs because of the language barrier? What are base housings rules on animals? I know the 2 pet limit, but do fish and reptiles (snake) count as pets? If I were to take 1 semester of ROTC, would that help my rank progression at all in the air force? I still have 1 semester left to switch classes around. How bad is the learning curve, with marching and all that jazz? What are my chances of being sent to Iraq/Afghanistan? Anything else REALLY important that I need to know? Thanks for the help, if you answer, you've made a big difference in my life. Thanks for the answers so far guys. Alrighty, I should've guessed that spanish wouldn't be too good haha. With the hospital question, I'm talking about if the air force sends me to Japan or something and her not knowing Japanese. I'm 100% sure she wouldn't be able to work in a Japanese hospital with her not being able to speak Japanese and all. Another thing that I just thought of, is there any way that I can I go from being enlisted to being an officer?

My point is, I was on a summer job program from unique hr with the city of dallas this year, and after my summer job was over. I now have gotten this retirement statement saying i have money on it and after reading the letter and stuff. I read that 20% tax will be withheld from the amount i want to receive as a check because of the amount being under 1000 bucks. I haven't done anything yet because i don't know anything about this or what to do. I just know that i have until dec. to make a decision, and so far i have not gotten a regular job yet. For those who know about this stuff, please help. what should i do?
