- Resolved Question: I think there's a conspiracy against me?
(Tue, 10 Jun 2008 03:21:15 GMT)
Retirement information :
I became unemployed/retired November 2007. I applied for unemployment insurance benefits. They denied it and I appealed. I won the appeal. Within one week of me winning my appeal I had the California Franchise Tax board investigating my past filing claims. Funny thing is I was a Texas resident during the years they were investigating. They claimed I should have submitted a tax return and I said WHY?!?!?! I'm a TX resident!!!
Anyways, when I beat those bastards the Federal Government s

- Open Question: Beckman Coulter Inc. (BEC) 401K Plan?
(Tue, 27 May 2008 16:39:36 GMT)
Retirement information :
This question is for current or past employees of Beckman Coulter.
My Aunt retired from Beckman Coulter about 1 1/2 years ago. Recently she told my Grandmother that she lost all her retirement and her 401k is wiped out.
I check online to see if this is true, but I haven't found any negative information regarding the company. Its income statement doesn't show any negatives and its stock has been up over the past couple of years.
Is Beckman Coulter's 401k retirement plan sound?

I need to rollover my old 401k and I'm not sure where to do it at. I am interested in taking a bit of a hands on approach - I love getting on and looking at fund and stock prices even if half the time i have no idea what I'm looking at - but the truth of the matter is that at this time I know nothing about investing. I simply want to be able to put my small amount of money in an account, be able to look up information online and try to get an understanding on what is going on, not have to pay

- Resolved Question: Who agrees that this type of information is what should have been on Taker's DVD?
(Wed, 30 Apr 2008 17:25:48 GMT)
Retirement information :
Mark Calaway did an interview and in it discusses his favorite match of his career, retirement, and a lot of other stuff. I think Taker's DVD that came out a couple years back should have had this kind of info. It didn't have any interviews or info about Taker or anything, just his matches. I think another improved one should come out that discusses things like this. He can even be in character and sort of say my gravest challenge was with so and so. The most interesting thing for me was when

- Resolved Question: Where's the logic??
(Mon, 28 Apr 2008 15:06:04 GMT)
Retirement information :
Last week I received a mail solicitation from a well-known Hollywood star representing an organization asking me to donate money to fund an environmental group. In return for my donation, the group would send me a re-usable cloth shopping bag - I assume to reduce paper/plastic waste. The request came in a large brown envelope that included a 6-page letter, a return envelope and a postcard showing the shopping bag. I will assume that the bag would be shipped to me in either large mail envelope

- Resolved Question: What do you know about EIU's? Equity Indexed Universal Life Insurance Product.?
(Sat, 26 Apr 2008 22:17:23 GMT)
Retirement information :
I have only just heard of this concept/product and have not been able to find much information prior to January 2008, at which time it seems to have been introduced.
It sounds fantastic. Tax-free retirement savings (under the life insurance umbrella), much better than average rate of returns (at least 8%, more depending on the S&P performance). Is this too good to be true?
Please only answer this if you are experienced with EIU's, thank you.

- Resolved Question: Is it wise to invest on both a TRS (Texas Retirement System) and a 403B at the same time?
(Tue, 15 Apr 2008 14:10:31 GMT)
Retirement information :
I am a teacher in a public education system. When I was 23, I knew nothing about retirement programs. But I do know it is important to save up for my golden years knowing that social security benefits would probably not be as lavish on us as it is on the older folks these days. That is a stroy in itself.
Going back to my question, I did get a 403B plan which I contribute about $75 per paycheck (26 in a year), plus $110 goes to the TRS. Both are retirement plans.
I am now 29 and ridiculously

- Resolved Question: Are finance and investing classes required in any high schools?
(Fri, 11 Apr 2008 20:44:27 GMT)
Retirement information :
It seems that investing is the key to class mobility. With a simple retirement account and even limited knowledge of the stock market and other investment vehicles, one can easily go from lower to middle class, middle to upper, and the rich can stay rich forever. So my question is: why isn't this information standardly taught in schools, and are there any places where it is? What would be the deterrent to such a class - higher earnings and inflation?

- Resolved Question: Federal Government Salary Verification?
(Thu, 10 Apr 2008 00:32:50 GMT)
Retirement information :
The Federal job application asks for salary information from all of your previous jobs. Does anyone know if the government verifies salary? I'm not going to lie on my application, but would like to know how to correctly answer this question...
Is it acceptable to list your salary to include incentives? For example, if my current company GIVES a guaranteed extra 5% contribution into a 401k plan, can I add this to my salary? Not to be confused, the 5% is NOT a match, rather they give you 5% on

Retirement information :
I have not very much in my 401k, but I have inherited quite a bit of money. I wanted to roll over what was in my 401k, which is about $890 to a Roth IRA. My question is does it matter what financial institution I roll over the 401k balance to? Do each institution have different rates? Where can I go to find out such information? Also, are the rates fixed, and is compound interest a part of IRA's. I am an amateur at retirement investing, and I'm only 27. I just wanted some feedback. Tha

I am looking at switching jobs and am wondering where it would be best to put my current 401k money...into a new 401k, a traditional IRA or a ROTH IRA. I currently have a ROTH IRA and enjoy the ability to invest in what I want. I also enjoy knowing that the money I see will not be taxable upon retirement.
