- Open Question: Co-own house with parents - they need to file bankruptcy! Options?
(Tue, 10 Jun 2008 07:54:38 GMT)
Retirement investments :
We built a home with my parents 4 years ago and have been sharing the mortgage payments equally. After multiple strokes and serious medical issues with both, they are now dependent on social security and have depleted their investments and retirement funds. They cannot cope with their credit payments and need to file bankruptcy. We already had their names taken off the title for the house. They still give me a check each month to cover their half of the mortgage, which is now "rent". They

My husband and I have been married six years. Most of the assets - houses, retirement investments, etc. were his prior to marriage. Is it true that if we stay married for at least 7 years, all this becomes comminuty property? He has never, (and refuses to) put my name on titles and such. - Open Question: Balancing 401k and Roth IRA?
(Thu, 05 Jun 2008 18:41:15 GMT)
Retirement investments :
I asked this question in more detail in the Investing category, but I was wondering in general if this is a good strategy:
IF my 401k options are mediocre,
BUT my Roth IRA investments are better,
THEN would it be best to drop the 401k options where they overlap with the Roth IRA and put most of my 401k into the stable value/money market option it offers? In other words, a conservative 401k balanced with a more growth-focused Roth IRA?
Thanks for your input! I'm 44 years old by the way, and a

At this time, I believe it is because the government prefers citizens to be dependent on it. It is nearly impossible for the middle class to save enough to be independent during retirement due to these taxes plus, why save if the government takes your money?
Interest on savings is considered income which is taxed; savings is most definetely taxed.

You could cash this annuity out at retirement and get a monthly payment. As an investment, you would likely earn more. You would still have the option of using the current system of putting away for your retirement, but this second option would be different in that you could pass on this investment to your family. As in, how do you save more of this money from being eaten by taxes? Usually people talk about investments, but I am not invested in anything at this time.

So the money you would invest is already taxed...once it is invested and starts to accumulate income, based on it's interest %, you are taxed on that again.... yay taxes). This point is besides the point, but just illustrating.
