Open Question: How can Americans unite to repair our enlightened constitutional Nation without resorting to a violent revolt?
(Fri, 12 Mar 2010 18:26:30 GMT)
Most Americans are divided today. Liberals vs. Conservatives, Hippies vs. Suits, the list of polarities is endless. George Washington warned us about the European bankers intent to use this type of division to distract us and prevent us from focusing on the priority of watching over our government. Most of us agree the U.S. government is a corrupt structure and a growing number understand how the European bankers have manipulated our Federal Reserve, and central banks of most nations, to control us, bankrupt us and steal our property, or as Jefferson said "Your children will wake up homeless in the fields of the nation your fathers conquered." Many people propose riots, civil unrest etc., and many radio and web hosts are revealing these trends, but talking about it doesn't solve the problem. It will require action and soon - we are a bankrupt nation today where 80% of stimulus for renewable energy went to foreign corporations instead of to U.S. communities to create jobs and reduce our reliance on oil. This is just one area our leaders have failed - the list is growing and even folks like Willie Nelson and Jessie Ventura know it. The question becomes "How do we correct the course of our nation without a violent revolt?" Voting and waiting 4 - 6 years is far too slow, and the train wreck economy and looming fiscal disaster is at our door - it surrounds each of us every day. This question, above all others, to me anyway, is the most important question of the 20th and 21st century, both for our nation and the planet; for without answering this first, nothing else mankind does will matter much. Its not likely the bankers, oil, chemical and drug companies are going to manage the global environment, our water supplies, standard of living, retirement accounts, oceans and habitats for the benefit of humanity and other species. They've failed miserably in their half-hearted attempts thus far, but for us to care for our nation and planet, we need to be solvent, continue to learn and become more enlightened - as our founding fathers had hoped - and therefore, if we are to cure our nation's ills and help heal a torn planet, I believe we are going to have to start with Washington, our State Governments and local governments with a rapid series of reforms that are mandated - demanded - by citizens. The critical word - "rapid" - isn't in the vocabulary of most politicians at the Federal level - which means the word "revolt" will soon be the word of the day. To me, this is a step backwards, an admission of our failure as citizens and prima facie evidence of the failure of our leaders to create and manage a sustainable, "enlightened" government. Is there an alternative to armed insurrection and revolt to "take our nation back", or is this the natural course of history - as also predicted by Jefferson? It is not true that a government - any government - can stop a mass movement. It is true that they can disrupt small groups. However a large, UNITED, coordinated citizen body is without any solution except to either heed their will - or slaughter them - which in theory would enrage those remaining, and thereby trigger the revolt this question aims to avoid, as I do not believe destructive violence is the best course of action. It would indict us all as animals, incapable of resolving this within the framework of the "enlightened" government structure we are blessed to have. How do we work within the system we have without destroying the fabric of our nation or pressing our leaders to turn our own military against us? (which begs another question indeed).

Open Question: i need a pump to suck waste water from shower?
(Fri, 12 Mar 2010 17:38:10 GMT)
we are re-fitting a bathroom in a retirement flat on the 1st floor of the building. the bathroom had a bath which was sat fairly high which allowed the waste pipe to have a decent fall and allowed good removal of waste water. however, the customer wants a shower only and no bath. we cannot get a decent fall on the waste pipe due to shower tray being sat lower than bath for easy access for elderly person. we have solid concrete floor so we need to fit some sort of gulper pump to suck the water out rather than push it out. the pump needs to have a flow switch for automatic operation and connected to 230v supply. we are wanting to hide this pump in the unit below sink so it must be fairly small. the shower is on the left, basin unit in middle and external wall to right, so pump will be in the middle. has anyone had similar situation or know a pump for the job any answers appreciated, thanks for your time.

Open Question: i hate my mother, but she's dying?
(Fri, 12 Mar 2010 04:27:40 GMT)
I am a 30 year old woman with six year old twin sons. My mother divorced my father when I was eight. She remarried and her new husband was very emotionally and verbally abusive towards me and her. She had a son with him when I was ten. I raised my brother because she worked two jobs and I basically did all the work at home, from cooking, cleaning, bathing my brother, doing homework with him, etc. My relationship with my stepfather was nonexistent. I hated him for how he treated me and her. He called us all types of names including, whores, bitches, etc. However everytime I stood up to him, she defended him and beat me instead. They both were so strict that I never went to a movie theatre with friends until I was 18! When I turned 18, I decided I couldnt live there anymore so I decided to dorm in college. I worked and went to school. I learned how to become independent and I loved it. When I was 22 she finally divorced him, but my relationship with her was nonexistent because we stopped talking because of him. So I made the first step to try to fix things with her. Except she thought she could still tell me how to live my life. She hated my exboyfriend, hated my career choice, hated the fact that I went out on weekends with friends to unwind, etc. She called me a wild child. My exboyfriend was physically abusive of me and when we broke up, I found out I was pregnant with my sons. She asked me if I was going to have an abortion...why? I had a career, I was independent, I can have my children as a single woman and raise them as a single woman. After a while she warmed up to the idea of being a grandmother and she asked me to move in with her because she wanted to help me with my sons. So I did. I thought that I was finally going to build a relationship with the woman who gave birth to me. We had more downs than up while I was there. I couldn't go out ever because now I was a "mother' and mothers don't get time for themselves, I literally became the cleaning maid for her and her spoiled son, and every chance she could she would say how she had a house and a car and everything at my age and that I didn't have anything. I had my apartment, my brand new car, my career..are you kidding me?? I payed her "rent" because I felt it was the responsible thing to do as a grown up and it helped get her out of foreclosure. Two times her house went into forecloser and I saved the house with my 401K retirement money. (It was easily more than 10K) I began to date someone when my sons were three and it didnt work out because he cheated on me. She loved him and so bc I broke up with him, I was not putting enough effort. Shortly after I began to date the wonderful man who I am currently engaged to. She called me a whore because I was jumping from man to man. She also didn't like him because he was legally seperated and getting a divirce. I left her house and moved into my own place with my children and soon after he moved in with us. I was so happy and finally felt like i was living my life with my family and then I found out she was diagnossed with stage IV intestinal cancer. She was sick, and losing her house. All of the money I put away for my own first home, I gave to her to save the house. My fiance forgave her for the way she treated him and we all agreed it would be best if we moved into her house so that I can be there to help take care of her. I finally thought this would be the turning point for her and I and I was finally going to get the value I thought I deserved. She was never loving, never affectionate, and at her weakest she began to show signs of love. For eleven months all I did was be her caretaker. (Chemo, radiation..I did it all) I paid her bills because she was barely recieving from s.s. and my lazy brother didn't have a job. My fiance helped fix up the house, and did what my eighteen year old brother slacked on. My mother asked for forgiveness for judging him wrong because she saw how good of a man he really was. I helped my brother fill out college applications and a job. In the meantime, I had decided to return to school myself, so I was juggling work, my sick mom, my children and school. My brother began to drink heavily and I tried many times to talk to him. Later I found out he was starting to smoke marijuana, so I confronted him. My mother became so crazed with the fact that i called her son out on being irresponsible and not helping any of the situation we were in she began to attack me. My sons, my fiance and i literally began to live in our bedroom from morning till night and never stepped out. She stopped talking to us and my brother (her precious son) would look at me and laugh as i walked by. I even overheard her trashtalk me to her family and friends that "She's only mad cuz I didn't die yet." It broke my heart. My own mother was bad mouthing me..I couldnt believe it. One Sunday this past December, she came into my room and demanded I pay her almost twice what I was paying in my own apartment

Open Question: I need a job! Can I please vent to you friend?
(Fri, 12 Mar 2010 01:33:05 GMT)
I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a Minor in Special Education. I am working at a day care and I make half as much as I should be... I cannot find a job in my area due to potential teaching retirees waiting for their own great retirement incentives. I substitute taught for a year, but the schedule and pay were so up-in-the-air, so I had to find something a bit more stable... I settled for this current job in a day care and I cannot find anything in Elementary Education! I have two kids, a mortgage, student loans, bills, etc. to pay for and what I have now is not cutting it!!! My husband has a Bachelor's in Science and Technology and he searched everywhere for a job. He settled for selling Red Bull out of the back of his Red Bull truck. We don't know what else to do. I'm online every night looking for a job and no luck... every day... every day... I broke down today on my lunch break today. I was balling. I am literally getting depressed because I tried so hard in college. I made Dean's List several times and I am in the same professional and monetary position I would have been if I had never went to college. It's depressing beyond words friends. Any kind words are appreciated. Thank you. I'm so afraid that if I found a job down south, my husband wouldn't be able to find one--or vice-a-versa.

Open Question: Did the Gov. give us a separate maintainace decree when they excluded me from his social security and med?
(Fri, 12 Mar 2010 01:05:06 GMT)
My husband and I were living together in the same home when he retired and I was excluded from his social security and medicare benefits because i have not reach retirement age yet. I wanted to file head of household on my tax return because it was clear to me that I am on my own but mainly because we have minor children in the home and need the credits.. I was told I could not do so because my husband had to be living out of the home for 6 months..? Since that is one of the test that must be met and requires that we have "a separate maintanace decree" I just could not understand why the IRS and S.S. don't know or understand that they already seperated us.If we file married , they go in and recalculate our taxes by using my little gov. pension to see how much his S.S. is taxable and I don't think that is fair either since I do not share in any of his benefits. Neither of us have outside jobs. Do you think this "wifeless" S.S.entitlement letter my husband received for himself "only" is considered a "seperate maintanance decree"? Is this one of the reasons seniors would get divorced in their retirement" Shame !Shame!

Open Question: How do I get my husband to be more financially responsible?
(Thu, 11 Mar 2010 14:38:01 GMT)
When my husband and I got married, I had NO debt and he already had a high debt load. We have used up all my savings in support of paying his bills. Now that he's gotten a higher paying job, he is blowing all his money on buying random things which add up. Presents to his entire side of the family, big nights out, electronic gadgets, etc. We still have no savings. How do I get him to understand that we need to discuss big purchases (e.g. he's just spent US$ 2,000 on buying presents for HIS family) and that we need to start saving??? He thinks that we can dip into our retirement fund whenever he feels like it. ARGH!

Resolved Question: Would Americans be better off if the government left us to look after ourselves?
(Thu, 11 Mar 2010 10:48:09 GMT)
I don't want the public school system-I can provide for my kids education just fine. I don't want social security-I can save for my own retirement thank you. I don't need Obamacare-I can get excellent care in the free market. In fact if the government would stop "providing" for Americans, two amazing things would happen. 1) Our hellish debt could immediately be brought under control 2) The economy and job creation would immediately rev up. How? The government would no longer have any excuse to seize 1/2 of everything I have to waste on mismanaged programs that are bankrupting our nation. I could provide for myself and keep my pay to spend as I chose

Resolved Question: At any point, are you forced to go into retirement?
(Thu, 11 Mar 2010 05:39:21 GMT)
In the high school I go to, there's a really old man who works as one of the maintanence crew. He's 64years old and still is working. I asked him about retiring but he says he loves to work. His age doesn't affect his job though, he's always hyper so he never falls asleep on the job and he does not use a cane or any kind of support. Could they force him, or anyone to retire?

Open Question: Conservatives and liberals, republicans and democrats...?
(Thu, 11 Mar 2010 01:02:19 GMT)
we know the system is rigged against us. The top tier earners, who own both political parties, are laughing all the way to the bank while we battle it out here on YA and call each other names. So my question is... when do we take our country back? When does the bleeding of jobs, homes, retirement accounts, etc stop? Or do we let them have their way and their cake and we end up like Rome? And no.. it's not the goverment, although that can use a disinfectant as well. Trickle down never amounted to a piddle and those that pushed and stuck up for it should be ashamed.

Resolved Question: What do you think of this story...?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 15:17:01 GMT)
This came from The Motley Fool (AN INVESTING INFORMATION SITE): http://www.fool.com/ : Do you know Jack? Our quick-but-powerful story starts with two twins: Jack and Jill. As they turn 18, Jack takes a job out of high school and begins investing. From age 18 to 30 -- when he gets married and has his first kid -- Jack socks away five grand a year. Then he stops. Jill, meanwhile, goes to college and then medical school. She starts saving at 30 -- the same $5,000 per year. Both invest in the stock market, earning a long-term average of 11% a year. But by age 65, the difference in their financial fortunes will shock you: Jill, who contributed for 35 years straight, will have $1.9 million. But Jack, who invested for only 12 years, actually has $4.9 million ... thanks to his head start! Could you use $4.9 million for your retirement? Isn't that amazing???

Resolved Question: What do other supporters of illegals have to say about one of their own arrested for helping illegals break?
(Tue, 09 Mar 2010 02:31:34 GMT)
What do other supporters of illegals have to say about one of their own arrested for helping illegals break the law ?McALLEN, Texas — A south Texas county commissioner pleaded guilty Monday to two felony counts stemming from her putting illegal immigrants who worked at her home on the county payroll. Hidalgo County Commissioner Sylvia Handy pleaded guilty to making false statements on her 2005 income tax return and conspiracy to conceal or harbor illegal immigrants, according to federal court records. Lawyers had prepared to begin picking the jury for her trial Monday. U.S. District Judge Ricardo Hinojosa allowed Handy to remain free on bond until her June sentencing, in exchange for promising to resign her elected position Tuesday, court records show. Arrested in April, Handy faced an 11-count indictment, but had remained free on bond and continued working as a county commissioner. Calls to Handy's attorney Al Alvarez and her precinct office were not immediately returned Monday. Handy's husband Juan Espronceda also was charged in the case, but the charges were supposed to be dropped after Handy's sentencing, according to court records. Federal investigators alleged Handy defrauded the county of $111,000 in salaries for the immigrants. Some of their county salaries also went toward paying a $53,000 bill consolidation loan Handy took out in 2004, according to the indictment. Handy allegedly instructed a county human resources employee to prepare a fraudulent job application for one woman using an assumed identity, including someone else's Social Security number. At one point, Handy promoted her. The woman moved in 2004 into a house in Mercedes owned by Handy and continued collecting county paychecks. In June 2005, the woman withdrew $4,400 from her assumed identity's retirement account. The process allegedly included sham interviews with other job applicants before another illegal immigrant ultimately was hired for a maintenance job. She collected county checks while working in Handy's home in 2004. Handy has served on the county commission since first running for her seat in 1996. She was Hidalgo County's first elected woman commissioner. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/tx/6903526.html

Voting Question: What jobs in the civilian world count military time towards retirement?
(Tue, 09 Mar 2010 00:07:55 GMT)
My husband has been in the army for about tn years and will be getting out pretty soon. I think the FBI or secret service or something will count his military time towards retirement, but I don't know for sure. What other ones are there. We would hate for those ten years to count for nothing. My husband is currently deployed. Though this is his third deployment, this is his first with a wife. And we had a baby in the middle of this deployment. As he puts it, the army is a good occupation for a single guy. It is putting a lot of stress on the whole family. That's why he's getting out.

Voting Question: Should I move the money in my retirement plan when switching jobs?
(Mon, 08 Mar 2010 23:51:28 GMT)
I have worked for a small company (~20 employees) for the past 5 years. Now, I'm moving to another company. I have about $80K built up in what my employer refers to as a "profit-sharing retirement plan." It's administered by a 3rd party, and contributions are made on my behalf, I'm not sure when this is done or how much I'm putting in. Once yearly I get to choose which funds my money is invested in, and I get quarterly statements. I guess this is like a 401K but I'm not sure, since I don't really know what a 401K is. It's actually kind of shameful how little I know about this. The office manager has assured me that I can just leave my money there after I leave, but honestly it makes me a little bit nervous to do so. So would this be the type of thing I could "roll over" into another account, something over which I could exercise more direct supervision? I'm hoping to avoid paying taxes, of course. Or should I just let the money stay put? If I wanted to move my money, how would I go about doing something like this? Can I just go somewhere like T Rowe Price (I see their commercials on TV) and tell them to take care of it for me?

Resolved Question: players that came, played occasionly, then left - aka biggest flops of the EPL?
(Mon, 08 Mar 2010 18:28:42 GMT)
Tomas Brolin The man made a name for himself at AC Parma and at the 1994 World Cup with a few stunning goals. At the end of 1995 he moved to Leeds for ₤4.5 million and after arriving with weight problems, ‘Tubby’ scored a shocking 4 goals in 2 seasons all the while heavily lining the pockets of every McDonald’s manager in Leeds. Leeds terminated his contract in 1997 and it was all over for Fatty. Denilson Christiano Ronaldo without a brain would be a very apt title with which to describe Denilson. After signing for Betis for a then record 21.9 million Pounds, he proceeded to dribble himself for 7 years, before everyone realized how crap he really was. After an unsuccessful spell with Bordeaux, he decided to test his talent in the fairer climes of Saudi Arabia and FC Dallas. He seems to have found his level. Except FC Dallas don’t want him anymore. Marco Boogers - West Ham Harry Redknapp wasn't always the streetwise London gaffer he is today. The arrival of 'Mad' Marco Boogers for £1m from Sparta Rotterdam in July 1995 was just one of a number of misjudged West Ham imports. Coming on as a substitute against Manchester United in only his second appearance for the club, Boogers was almost immediately red carded for 'a sickening horror tackle' (The Sun) on Gary Neville. He promptly disappeared, discovered several weeks later hiding in a mobile home in a Dutch caravan park. The Boogers debacle, which ended in a loan deal and subsequent free transfer to Groningen despite his protestations - 'I'm not mental' - was the worst of a dreadful Redknapp collection: Florin Raducioiu arrived for £2.4m in July 96 and was sold at a £600,000 loss six months later after missing training for a Harvey Nichols shopping trip; Portuguese supermodel Dani lasted five months before being thrown out for excessive nightclubbing; and £2m star Javier Margas went missing in February last year, turning up later at home in Chile. He, unlike Boogers, did come back. Wim Jonk - Sheffield Wednesday Not only did Jonk look like Michael Palin, but he was as tough in the tackle as him. The Dutchman, signed for £2.5m from PSV Eindhoven in 1998, lolloped anonymously around Wednesday’s midfield for two seasons, the second of which saw them relegated. After experiencing the hurly burly of two First Division games, he sat out the remaining year of his contract, citing a tummy ache. At the end of that season, he retired to concentrate on his poetry. Wednesday fans had their own rhymes for him. Chris Sutton Another Chelsea flop, Sutton never really did much at Chelsea in one season, after transferring from Blackburn Rovers for ₤10 million. Luckily he did better at Celtic forming a deadly partnership with Henrik Larsson. Aaah, the Scottish League, a retirement home for below average English strikers. Massimo Taibi - Manchester United Sir Alex signed him to replace Peter Schmeichel? In 1999, with Raimond van der Gouw always wearing his bridesmaid’s outfit and Mark Bosnich too cocky by half, Sir Alex Ferguson splashed out £4.5m on Venezia journeyman Massimo Taibi. The omnipresent tracksuit bottoms should have caused Ferguson to pause for thought. Instead, Taibi conceded two sloppy goals at Liverpool on his debut and one to Wimbledon the following week. Then the fun began: Southampton scored three at Old Trafford, including a Matthew Le Tissier “shot” that trickled through Taibi’s legs and was so soft, it barely crossed the line. Eight days later, Chelsea put five past him at Stamford Bridge and this Italian’s job was over, little more than a month after it had began. Taibi rotted in the reserves until Reggina took him on loan before a £2.5m purchase at season’s end. He was, noted a generous Roy Keane, “clearly a good keeper”. Clearly. Juan Sebastian Veron - Manchester United signed for 28.1 million from lazio on a five year deal and lasted just 2 years before being sold onto Chelsea for less than half man utd payed. The strange thing is he was touted as one of the best midfielders in the world and seem to lose all talent the minute he steped off the plane at Manchester Airport. Corrado Grabbi - Blackburn Rovers How the Italians chuckled in 2001 when Graeme Souness, manager of Blackburn Rovers, paid £6.75m for Juventus cast-off Corrado Grabbi, who had just scored 19 goals in 34 Serie B (not to be confused with Serie A) games for Ternana. Grabbi’s work ethic was never in doubt, but two goals in 30 Premiership games suggested Souness might have been better buying a Serie A player. After an especially profligate performance in the 2003 Uefa Cup against Genclerbirgli, Souness lost patience. Grabbi was bought by Ancona. The fee was undisclosed, but it wasn’t £6.75m. Sean Dundee - Liverpool In 1998, Karlsruhe were relegated from the Bundesliga. Their tubby star forward, Sean “Crocodile” Dundee, scored just three times. These facts d ( continued from above or below dependin

(Sun, 07 Mar 2010 17:00:37 GMT)
I have a blog that is position #1 in Google for 'retirement investment'. I will not run it any longer. But simply leaving a blog like this is stupid, because then all my previous job is wasted. So, I want to sell it for good money to those who need 'retirement investment' traffic from Google. Any recommendations where to sell it?

Voting Question: Why do Libs/Dems want to reward ir-responsible people as opposed to responsible people?
(Sun, 07 Mar 2010 15:47:23 GMT)
Is it fair that I being a responsible American all my life...Paid my bills on time..bought a house I could afford...saved my pennies for retirement..bought my own health insurance..worked hard at a job and rarely miss a day for last 25 years...have to foot the bill for many of the irresponsible delinquents of America? Where is the fairness in that? Why am I not rewarded for my responsibility?

Voting Question: How to travel indefinitely and cheap all over the world?
(Sun, 07 Mar 2010 07:23:01 GMT)
I'm beginning to question just how important it is to live a life where you work, go home, sleep, then go to work again. After all, the dollar is about to collapse so that means retirement funds are essentially no good. I'm starting to think, maybe I should just say screw it, quit work, leave the materialistic lifestyle, and go travel around the world and have as much fun as I can. Can anybody recommend books and websites that talk about how to travel cheap and indefinitely? For example staying in hostels and what type of jobs you can work along the way, and how to get those jobs?

Voting Question: Employment after military career?
(Sat, 06 Mar 2010 23:43:56 GMT)
So say a guy serves in his branch for thirty years. He's got a degree. What does he do when he gets out? Do a lot of companies hire late-40 early-50 year olds with no experience but what they did in the military? Would the retirement pay from his career be enough to live off of without another job? I suppose I'm a bit confused as to what a career guy does after he serves.

Resolved Question: Immigration Related Issue to United States.?
(Sat, 06 Mar 2010 18:11:54 GMT)
I heard about the economic recession crisis hitting usa at its worst time ever before. So, please can you advise me whether or not should I immigrate to united states. Additional Detail: In a year, my father is getting retirement from his job at a very age of 58, he is not that much old, he can still work for about more 7-10 years. But the government here is stick about imposing its rule on retirement. So after a year, our lifes will not be as luxuries as present. So should we reject the immigration or not. Please consider our livings after a year.

Resolved Question: When should I start saving for retirement?
(Fri, 05 Mar 2010 21:12:10 GMT)
My husband and I are both 22, we are both graduating from college and can no longer keep our student jobs. We are moving to another city and looking for work, we aren't expecting to make much money initially because we have BA's. We might even just get two part-time jobs each to begin with. We have $29,000 in student loan debt. If we pay that off in five years, we will only be paying $5,000 in interest. With a ten-year plan, we would be paying about $11,000. Needless to say, we are going to try pay the debt off in five years. We don't currently have an adequate emergency savings and would like to buy a house in a few years. I have a plan to save $20,000 in three years for a down payment on a home (I live in TX, you can find a perfectly good home for $100-150k) which will also serve as our emergency savings during that three year period. In order to follow this plan, we will need to be making a combined $38,000 a year, which is not a lot. We are used to living thrifty and the cost of living in our state is very low. However, if we are splitting our extra money between an emergency/house fund and student loan debt, we won't have money to put towards retirement. Should we wait until we find full-time jobs to begin saving for retirement? Should we wait three years until we get a home? Or should we pay our student loans off more slowly in order to save for retirement? Planning for retirement at 25 sounds pretty good to me, but I'm no financial guru. Thanks!

Resolved Question: Why are so many Union Pension plans on the brink of collapse?
(Fri, 05 Mar 2010 17:54:09 GMT)
And how is this effecting Obama's decision making? Excerpts: Unions have been the fiercest proponents of the Obamacare have been the Unions. Andy Stern, head of the SEIU has been to the White House more than any other visitor. Some commentators have reported that's Stern's constant trips to the White House is due to his participation in reviewing the basic components of the health care bills as they are developed by the houses of congress. Why is this particular legislation so important to the unions? Because the unions pensions plans are woefully underfunded. The hope is once Obamacare is passed union workers will eventually be shoved over to the co-ops (or an eventual government option), freeing up union cash to help with the pension program. As of this very moment the administration is working on a plan to give preference to Union Shops for ALL federal contracts. The proposal, dubbed the “High Road Contracting Policy,” was first reported by The Daily Caller in early February. According to multiple sources familiar with the discussions, the proposal would give preference to government contractors that pay their hourly workers a “living wage” and provide additional benefits such as health insurance, employer-funded retirement plans and paid sick leave. In other words, they will be "cutting out" the non-union shops and raising the price of jobs, and increasing the federal deficit. In your opinion, is Obama being used as a catalyst to cover up for the union bosses and their poor judgment and are we as tax payers going to get stuck picking up the tab? Here is the article along with a list of 108 union plans that aren't looking too hot: http://yidwithlid.blogspot.com/2010/03/how-coming-union-pension-plan-collapse.html

Resolved Question: Would you marry for love or money? 35 and older preferably?
(Fri, 05 Mar 2010 12:04:21 GMT)
I met the most amazing man. We have been friends for four years and recently began dating in May. We have had a rocky beginning. We live 70 miles apart. He is gone on the weekends for work. We have continual passion for each other, but we see each other once a week or every other week. I got laid off, I am going through a home loan modification, he wants me to lease the house and move in with him in his small room at his brother's house. We would leave a meager lifestyle, and most of the time he doesn't get anything I say. He isn't really bright. My friend of 15 years confessed he loves me the other day. He told me that he would take care of me for the rest of my life. I would instantly be moving up the hill, get a new convertible beemer, and be sent to Italy for four months to learn to cook Italian food. I would spend my summers on the French Riviera and during the year I can start my own business of choice. He is a nice man, we go to church together, dinner, basically I would have to take a few whoping tequila shots to sleep with him even though he is not bad looking. I have lost all my retirement, i haven't been to successful finding a job in my previous income level and my family said that they will cut me out if I marry the other guy. My mother has already stopped talking to me. My electric is going to get shut off. Opinions please? The problem is the man I love I cannot communicate with, my friend I can communicate with but I can't be intimate with but will have stability. I have not always been in this situation. And "blast" I have been asked out by several wealthy men, but none were my friend. You don't have to be 20 to get a date all you have to have is a personality. I suggest you look up the definition in the dictionary.

Resolved Question: Will the boss be upset with me if I turn down a job?
(Fri, 05 Mar 2010 10:44:13 GMT)
Last year I applied for another job at the same place I work now. It is a State job. It would be about $3000 more a year. It requires some schooling that the State would pay for. Last year I was offered the job and then because of budget problems in the State my employer told me he didn't want to fill the job until the budget was better. He said if I took the job I would be in a different Union and I would lose my seniority and could be possibly bumped if there were layoffs. Now they are hiring for this position again and I have been offered the job again. Since last year with a retirement I have become the one at my current job with the highest seniority. This jobs union I cannot be bumped by anyone unlike the one I am being offered for more money. I love my current job and love the hours I work. So would I be completely STUPID to stay at this job which I am secure at, and turn down the job with more money and a schooling they'd pay for. The more money job has shifts and not the hours I like, like my current one. Is $3000 more a year worth it? Is it worth losing my seniority? How pissed would my boss be if I turned it down?

Resolved Question: is this in my own words? the othter 1 screwed up?
(Fri, 05 Mar 2010 09:17:24 GMT)
Is this in my own words? you know how you can't plagerize and all that... i tried putting this in my own words, is it good enough? internet: Step 1: Identification of a Vacancy The Line Manager identifies a vacancy for reasons that may include: • Staffing changes – eg. secondment, resignation, termination, retirement, leave; and/or • Work requirement changes – eg. creation of a new position, temporary additional workload. Step 2: Review the need for the position/to fill the vacancy. The Line Manager will review the short/long term requirement for the position and the need to fill the vacancy. In so doing the Line Manager will consider: • Staffing Plan/profile for the work area • Budget • Current / Future Requirements • Job Skill Requirements • Occupancy required to meet need (eg. ongoing, fixed term) • Adequacy and accuracy of position description • Whether the position is approved and established Note: This review may involve other managers within the faculty/service centre. Step 3: Determine the most effective recruitment strategy to acquire a pool of candidates The Line Manager will consider and assess the best way of attracting a pool of suitably qualified candidates, who will meet the needs of the business. Examples of methods for acquiring a pool of candidates are: • Internal staff (Advertisement) • Internal staff (Redeployment) • Candidates from recent/previous recruitment activity • Professional/Industry Organisations • Recruitment Agencies/Job Network • Advertising • Internet • Journals • Newspaper Step 8: Commence selection by reviewing applications and determine a shortlist of candidates. The Chairperson of the selection panel will ensure that all members or a representative sub-group have access to the applications, consider the information and facilitate a shortlisting process to identify the most competitive candidates. The selection panel (or representative sub-group) will compile a summary assessment and ranking of the candidates against the selection criteria for inclusion in the selection report. It may be necessary at this step to consider pre-selection interviews or other assessments tools to identify a manageable shortlist. Candidates not shortlisted will be advised that they were unsuccessful. Step 9: Assess short listed candidates. The selection panel will conduct interviews and/or apply other relevant assessment methods to acquire information relevant to the university’s business needs, position role & accountabilities and selection criteria. The assessment methods should be consistently applied to all candidates for a vacancy and may include, but not be limited to: • Interview • Skills/aptitude test • Work samples/simulations • Psychological testing • Reference check (mandatory for the recommended applicant) Following the collation of information from the various sources, including the candidate’s application/resume, the selection panel will review all the information and determine a ranking of the candidates. The ranking will identify the candidates who meet the criteria and order of merit. Step 12: Verbal offer of employment to preferred candidate and discuss employment terms and conditions. The relevant Line Executive/Chairperson/Line Manager makes contact with the recommended candidate and informs them of the offer subject to relevant conditions. The contact may address: • Remuneration package details • Relocation budget/costs • Availability for commencement • Clarify terms and conditions of appointment including tenure, probation etc. This should be undertaken immediately on receiving approval of the recommendation. Step 13: Make written offer of employment to candidate. HR will arrange for the formal written offer and contract of employment to be prepared (in accordance with the selection report) and dispatched within 1 day of receipt of the approved Selection Report and recommendation. Step 15: Arrange appointment and commence induction process. HR will ensure that all appointment documentation is stored on the Vacancy File and the appointment is finalised. This will include: • Obtaining a signed contract of employment • Update of all information/records (eg. ALESCO System) • Ensure induction is planned and conducted • Storage and retention of all original recruitment and selection documentation for 12 months in accordance with relevant records management guidelines. mine: Managers identify vacancy for reasons that can include: dismissal, leave, resignation, terminations, retirement or work requirement changes. Resolved Question: Do you agree or disagree with this statement by Robert Hall?
(Thu, 04 Mar 2010 03:43:55 GMT)
"I'm 63 and Im Tired" by Robert A. Hall I'm 63. Except for one semester in college when jobs were scarce and a six-month period when I was between jobs, but job-hunting every day, I've worked, hard, since I was 18. Despite some health challenges, I still put in 50-hour weeks, and haven't called in sick in seven or eight years. I make a good salary, but I didn't inherit my job or my income, and I worked to get where I am. Given the economy, there's no retirement in sight, and I'm tired. Very tired. I'm tired of being told that I have to "spread the wealth" to people who don't have my work ethic. I'm tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy to earn it. I'm tired of being told that I have to pay more taxes to "keep people in their homes." Sure, if they lost their jobs or got sick, I'm willing to help. But if they bought McMansions at three times the price of our paid-off, $250,000 condo, on one-third of my salary, then let the left-wing Congress-critters who passed Fannie and Freddie and the Community Reinvestment Act that created the bubble help them with their own money. I'm tired of being told how bad America is by left-wing millionaires like Michael Moore, George Soros and Hollywood Entertainers who live in luxury because of the opportunities America offers. In thirty years, if they get their way, the United States will have the economy of Zimbabwe , the freedom of the press of China , the crime and violence of Mexico , the tolerance for Christian people of Iran , and the freedom of speech of Venezuela . I'm tired of being told that Islam is a "Religion of Peace," when every day I can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and daughters for their family "honor"; of Muslims rioting over some slight offense; of Muslims murdering Christian and Jews because they aren't "believers"; of Muslims burning schools for girls; of Muslims stoning teenage rape victims to death for "adultery"; of Muslims mutilating the genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur'an and Shari'a law tells them to. I'm tired of being told that "race doesn't matter" in the post-racial world of Obama, when it's all that matters in affirmative action jobs, lower college admission and graduation standards for minorities (harming them the most), government contract set-asides, tolerance for the ghetto culture of violence and fatherless children that hurts minorities more than anyone, and in the appointment of U.S. Senators from Illinois. I think it's very cool that we have a black president and that a black child is doing her homework at the desk where Lincoln wrote the Emancipation Proclamation. I just wish the black president was Condi Rice, or someone who believes more in freedom and the individual and less arrogantly of an all-knowing government. I'm tired of a news media that thinks Bush's fundraising and inaugural expenses were obscene, but that think Obama's, at triple the cost, were wonderful; that thinks Bush exercising daily was a waste of presidential time, but Obama exercising is a great example for the public to control weight and stress; that picked over every line of Bush's military records, but never demanded that Kerry release his; that slammed Palin, with two years as governor, for being too inexperienced for VP, but touted Obama with three years as senator as potentially the best president ever. Wonder why people are dropping their subscriptions or switching to Fox News? Get a clue. I didn't vote for Bush in 2000, but the media and Kerry drove me to his camp in 2004. I'm tired of being told that out of "tolerance for other cultures" we must let Saudi Arabia use our oil money to fund mosques and madrassa Islamic schools to preach hate in America , while no American group is allowed to fund a church, synagogue or religious school in Saudi Arabia to teach love and tolerance. I'm tired of being told I must lower my living standard to fight global warming, which no one is allowed to debate. My wife and I live in a two-bedroom apartment and carpool together five miles to our jobs. We also own a three-bedroom condo where our daughter and granddaughter live. Our carbon footprint is about 5% of Al Gore's, and if you're greener than Gore, you're green enough. I'm tired of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germ rush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their noses while they tried to fight it off? I don't think Gay people choose to be Gay, but I damn sure think druggies chose to take drugs. And I'm tired of harassment from cool people treating me like a freak when I tell them I never tried marijuana. I'm tired of illegal aliens being called "undo

Resolved Question: Should we cash out my wife's 401k?
(Thu, 04 Mar 2010 02:40:18 GMT)
My wife is now a stay at home mother. I have a good job and am investing appropriately out of MY income for our retirement. She did however have a full time job in the past and has a little over 4k in a 401k.. Would it be worth it to just cash it out and use for savings and/or other investments? We are doing OK financially, this isn't a move of desperation. I just wonder if there are better things we could be doing with that money instead. Thanks in advance for your answers!!

Resolved Question: How the hell are you suppose to fix your credit if you cant get a simple job?
(Thu, 04 Mar 2010 02:08:34 GMT)
Im starting to get very desperate... im an engineering student its my senior year.. Im struggling to pay my rent and my credit has gone down hill becuz I cant manage it due to my rent... For 7 months ive been trying to get just a basic 2nd job.. Best Buy, Harris teeter, lowes, the carwash, retirement homes, EVEN the 2010 Census where on the test I only missed 1 question and had highest score of the applicants in my group.. but NO ONE will hire me it seems!! its so depressing and hard to manage school because im always worrying about how Im going to pay my rent and car payment.. My job I work now pays VERY WELL but I only work on weekend since n school..I have no record... all Im trying to get is a simple damn job where a highschool kid could work! I dont need alot of $$!!!!.. Im not even sure if a Fast food resturant will hire me but I guess I have to stoop down to that now! Im now starting to see how rough some peoples lifes really are.. Anyone have any suggestions or know places that dont check credit! I swear I dont have a record so it must be my credit! my rent is around $500 and my car payment is around $200 not to mention its a 2003 Cadillac ( lol gas) but I love the car to death.. it keeps me happy.. $700 a month sounds like alot for a college student but I pull around $1000 a month working just my part-time job I have now.. but I worked there since highschool thats why I make alot there. but still add gas in and it aint nothin after bills... Only reason I got so much was because during summers I use to work FULL time and Make $3,500 a month and save it.. but I couldnt last time because I worked an internship and was on leave from my partime job

Voting Question: If liberals want the health care bill so bad.. will they alone have their taxes raised for it?
(Thu, 04 Mar 2010 00:41:04 GMT)
Simple question. I have my own insurance so i don't need it. I made sure I got a good job to pay for it by working my A$$ off in college to pay for my own stuff and a good retirement. I don't believe in govt handouts. So how about amending the Census forms to ask if you want Obamacare... and then you have to zero out your standard deductions on your tax forms from now on to pay for it if you do. Why would you be against that?? You would have health care for all and it would be paid for then wouldn't it? Problem solved. Remember... .Health care is very important to you. So why not do that for the thousands of people that are dying every day like you folks claim. That is the least you can do right? That way you can share the obamacare that none of the dems on congress want for themselves anyway. Bring on the smart A** answers to that... I need a good laugh tonight Ok instead of the std deduction you just zero out the exemptions. That is the very least you could do. And remember! you dont' get any tax breaks for it!! The new ever expanding debt needs that money. I still don't want mine raised. Read the question. I said only for people that want it so bad. Hey welcome to costco.... Who's war is it now? Yes.. Obama's. It has been for quite a while now... Try again HAHA professor chaos! true that. I'll take that deal anyday Greg!! But you have to pay for the failed stimulus bill, Bloated budget, and Bloated omnibus bills. Pab... oh but forcing people to buy health insurance is right? Like I said to your lib buddies.... Try again. Plus I do pay a lot for my healthcare... but it it a H** of a lot better than any public option would think about being. Archergirl... Hey republicans can sign up too.. they just follow the same rules. And the rest of us conservatives will pay for ours which is better than anything a public option can put out.

Resolved Question: I need help....I made a mistake and lied about something on my foodstamp application?
(Wed, 03 Mar 2010 17:44:28 GMT)
Yesterday I had a phone interview for my food-stamp renewal and I just blurted out something and it was a lie. I do not work and i am only a full time student with my young daughter living with my grandmother. She gets social security and retirement and she has a part time job. When the lady called, and asked if anyone worked i just blurted out no and then i had to keep going along with it. I feel horrible and i am really scared that i will get in trouble. I have never been in trouble in my life and i know what I did was wrong and I hae no idea why i said no. I have a bad habit of blurting things out and i hate it!!! I feel horrible!!! I hate myself right now. Im really scared. I want to call back and tell the truth but i don't know how to explain this to them without sounding like an idiot or like i was trying to cheat the government. Does anyone have any suggestions about how I can explain this to them or what i can say. Serious answers only. I know what i did was wrong and unethical so please don't respond by telling me that. I am trying to fix this. I don't care if i don't get food-stamps anymore, I will make due, i just do not want to get in trouble.

Resolved Question: Is it possible to separate yourself from the materialistic world?
(Wed, 03 Mar 2010 05:59:26 GMT)
Im only a junior and high school, worked my ass off down to this day in school, only to discover all i have to show for my hard work is a piece of paper on which all my grades are recorded, and it is by this same piece of paper that i will be judged and looked through, all for what? To make money. I'm so sick and tired of putting so much time and effort in something i really have nothing to show for. Hell, in the past 16 years of my life (eh 11-12 years) i could have been training in a sport in which i would now be at least be good at, or a martial art, i'd be be close to getting my black belt by now. I envy those shaolin monks in china, while their stories may be less than one might consider fortunate, there hard work and effort comes with its share of rewards. Back flips, extreme flexibility strength, super human like abilitys such as being able to keep there core body temperature at a certain level to avoid freezing to death (may not have been shaolin monks, but it was some sort of monk). Their ability to meditate 6hours+ a day is a feat in itself! I really have no motivation to try in school whatsoever, its quite alarming to me but i have no desire to care. I'm trying to shake some sense into myself and keep myself focused but it seems so useless. In theory, would it be possible for someone (an american), who had been born into a middle class family, with all the luxuries of the modern world, to separate themselves for an extended period of time from the materialistic world in which they were used to many luxuries that many people around the world lived without? I truly admire the self discipline held by martial artists and monks, while it may sound like a romanticized reality i do understand the hard work and dedication they put into the things they do. I realize by separating myself would mean no yahoo answers, no ipod, no tv,nice clothes, good food, but at the same time i could live life to its fullest, without the restrictions of modern society, no 41k, no "retirement", just living life. No, not like a bum. I wouldn't be begging for money and living in american complaining about the government, but live somewhere in asia or south american, not separated from society, but far enough to live life with no obligations from society. My parents may disown me, but what the hell? they have absolutely nothing to show for their hard work, my mother may never be able to do things she wanted because of work and by the time she retires she will only have enough to live off safely until she dies. And no "well that's why you go to school, to make lots of money". She could have done what she wanted if it wasn't for the restrictions of society. More money does nothing for you, nice clothes, cars, houses, but when you die, and ask yourself, did i ever do something with my life? Did i truly do something? I dont know, im having a tough time swallowing the whole hs>college>job(money)>retirement>death. Just need an educated college graduate to slap the sense in me. I'd like to thank everyone to has replied to my post, i know its a giant wall of text but it thank you for taking your time to read it, and help me the best you could. All of your answers have opened up unseen routes before, and i do not feel as lost as i have before. I realize that i may not be able to live the way i want to, and may want to come back and "rejoin" "normal" society, but i will do my best to set my aspirations and follow through, life committment is an achievement in itself.

(Wed, 03 Mar 2010 04:56:49 GMT)
A guy came up to me and offer a job that I can get a license for a broker only for 1 month and this what they do offering life insurance, auto and help w/ the retirement plans but I have to pay $99 for background check :o ??? So I went online and check it I found out that they have hidden charges every month $25 for some computer maintenance for your file???? The stupid thing I did is I gave my credit card number cause they want it to be automatic when they gonna charge the $99. So when he left I went to my bank and cancel the card. There's actually more on the story like he said IRA is better that 401k and they want it to turn it to a long term mutual fund hahahaha :O ???
