Retirement planning advisor :
I am a full time teacher (needless to say I currently have a retirement plan through my school district), and I'd like to find a feasible way to retire in 25 years. I have been teaching for 3 years and I am married (if that makes a difference in how you may answer my question) and we have two children (ages 8 and 1). - Resolved Question: How could we make 500k a year and still craping by??!!??
(Mon, 14 Apr 2008 18:50:44 GMT)
Retirement planning advisor :
I am so puzzled as to my family situation, we make about 500k a year and are still living paycheck to paycheck. Mostly i will blame the tax. after 45% tax, we are only left with 320k, after medical insurance and retirement plan savings, we are left with 260k a year. Sounds like a lot, after house/auto insurance, pest control and other necessary cost for the house, we are left with 200k a year.
That devides up to 16k a month, we have 2 kids in day care, a hight mortgage, 2 car loans, dry clea

Retirement planning advisor :
I'm a Retirement Advisor. I help people plan for and invest in their present/future retirement needs (same thing as a Financial Advisor except I like to focus on investments geared towards retirement).
I've tried a few different networking groups and have not had much success with them. I've also played the religion card and attempted to join an organization that is through my religion. This approach has turned out to be more religious dating than actual business networking.

Retirement planning advisor :
So I am not sure who I am supposed to use, or even if there is a difference.
I am looking for someone that can put us on a budget, and help us to plan for retirement.

Retirement planning advisor :
I am currently planning to leave my current investment advisor as I am unhappy with the level of service and lack of low cost options. I plan to continue having an advisor that will manage two main retirement options (a roth IRA and a rolled over 401K from a prior job). I don't want to put all my eggs in one basket with this one group and would also like to push some discretionary income into an account with Vanguard that I will manage on my own, mostly investing in index funds. is this a rela

- Resolved Question: Could some financial advisors or CFO's offer some 401K insight?
(Fri, 20 Jul 2007 16:09:54 GMT)
Retirement planning advisor :
I'm doing some research on retirement plans for a company that has about 100 employees, average age 40. They are considering offering 401K, and would like some answers on:
1. % of employers that ??match? ?
2. typical percentage or amount matched

4. Do you have to be fully vested prior to matching?
5. Any employers that do it right away/ at one year, etc

- Resolved Question: I'm looking for a remote (or online) financial advisor.?
(Fri, 13 Jul 2007 22:15:27 GMT)
Retirement planning advisor :
After checking many Financial Advisor search websites, I have determined that there are no good financial advisors in my area, so, I am looking for a remote (online) financial advisor that is licensed to practice in California.
Most financial planners I have called, either: (1) do not return my phone calls. (2) do not want to offer remote financial advice, or (3) require a minimum net worth of more than 500K (which I do not have).
I need to be able to correspond with the financial advisor b
- Resolved Question: How is does variable life insurance work?
(Fri, 15 Jun 2007 19:53:31 GMT)
Retirement planning advisor :
I went to an AXA financial advisor to plan for my retirement and he insists i get an flexible variable life insurance policy from AXA? Anyone have this insurance from AXA and how does it work? - Resolved Question: Should I buy cash value life insurance?
(Wed, 30 May 2007 01:18:48 GMT)
Retirement planning advisor :
I'm trying to set up a retirement plan with my financial advisor. i make a real good salary and don't qualify for the roth IRA or other tax exempt retirement programs. I'm maxing out my 401K. My advisor suggests to open a universal life insurance policy. He points to the tax benefits of these policies as his reasoning in choosing it. I've got good term insurance and don't really need the extra coverage, but when he compared the tax savings on the universal life policy vs things like mutua
- Resolved Question: What should I do with my savings from my prior job?
(Mon, 21 May 2007 21:14:59 GMT)
Retirement planning advisor :
I recently took another job with a better retirement/benefit plan. I had worked for 10 years at another place and wanted to know what should I do with the money that had been put into my retirement plan. I want to roll it over to something else seeing as I'm not contributing to it anymore. I do have a financial advisor, but wanted some other opinions as well.

- Resolved Question: Should I promote my consulting business seperately by segments or all under one umbrella?
(Fri, 20 Apr 2007 18:07:21 GMT)
Retirement planning advisor :
I have a background that allows me to do financial consulting in more than one area including investment advisor / retirement planner, business valuations and business plans. Is it a bad idea to run these all as one consulting shop? Or should I have a seperate DBA for each? Should I not tell my customers I have more than one area of consulting. It makes good sense to offer a multitude of services since I have a masters in finance and undergrauate degree in business, banking experience and
- Resolved Question: Where do I start with learning about investing and retirement planning?
(Mon, 02 Apr 2007 20:29:58 GMT)
Retirement planning advisor :
I have been an assitant to a financial advisor for 6 months and I am not satisfied with just knowing how to fill out forms and where to send them. I would like to know the meaning behind most of the financial world's jargon (ETF's, IRA's, SIMPLE Plan, etc.) and also how to go about researching stocks. Where would I start? I really don't have any knowledge of these things besides tid bits I picked up around the office. Any book suggestions for a beginner or any links?
- Resolved Question: What is the best way for me to invest my savings?
(Sat, 31 Mar 2007 00:37:31 GMT)
Retirement planning advisor :
I currently have $50K earning 5% in a money market. I am 32 years old and an officer in the Marine Corps. I also have about 5K in retirement plan of a prior employer. I would like to roll that money into my own retirement plan but am not sure how to do it. My main concern at the moment is that I know I can get a much better return on my savings but I'm not sure how to do it. Because of my job I don't have access to a financial advisor during normal working hours. I am looking for low to
- Resolved Question: Is Variable Universal Life Insurance right for us?
(Sat, 17 Mar 2007 15:35:27 GMT)
Retirement planning advisor :
My wife and I recently started variable universal life insurance policies. We are paying about $600 a month toward the policy on top of what we are each contributing to our 401k plans. We are both under 30 yrs. old, and are trying to get a good start on our retirement. Should we be investing in IRA's or something else instead? We both supported ourselves before we got married, so do we even need life insurance right now since we don't have children yet? Our advisor works for New York Life
- Resolved Question: Examples of IRA investing use a rate of 8+% compounded int. Which IRA invs did this well over past 10 yrs?
(Fri, 09 Mar 2007 22:55:16 GMT)
Retirement planning advisor :
I do not know of any 401K or IRA available investments in any of the plans I have from 3 jobs that would have provided an actual return any where near 8-9% compounded interest per year over the past 10 years. What real investments would have done this well among commercially available mutual funds (growth, small cap, bond, etc), and how do I pick one of those? I've never seen one. The good picks are break even over that time period, and the absolute best choices may have increased by 50% in
- Resolved Question: Is Saving for Retirement Overrated these days?
(Fri, 16 Feb 2007 01:13:02 GMT)
Retirement planning advisor :
Don't get me wrong. I believe in saving for the future and I max out my 401(k), however it seems like companies, advisors, and planners stress you should be saving more because you "won't have enough" when you retire. I want to enjoy some of it now and still plan for the future, yet my advisor warns me that I'll still fall way short. All the financial publications seem so worried about not having enough.
Is this overblown?
Or should I sock it all away and live minimally?
- Resolved Question: Who can help manage my money on a small scale (i.e. bills, budgeting, etc)?
(Thu, 18 Jan 2007 20:09:17 GMT)
Retirement planning advisor :
I really would like to manage my money more efficiently, however, every time I try to find a financial advisor, it's someone who helps with decisions about investment portfolios and retirement plans. That's great, but I'm not at that point yet. I need help with the basics: paying down student loans, straightening out credit issues, setting a budget, and so on. What type of professional do I need?
- Resolved Question: What are some steps I can take to become a FINANCIAL ANAYLST/ADVISOR?
(Thu, 18 Jan 2007 18:39:44 GMT)
Retirement planning advisor :
I am a junior in college majoring in Banking and Finance. I am highly interested in working in investments and helping people plan for retirement. I aced a class project dealing with this and my teacher, as well as the whole class, said I found my niche. However, besides doing well in school, what are some steps or career paths I can follow to become a financial analyst. I am really passionate about helping people plan for retirement and I also see that it pays great money but you have to have
- Resolved Question: paying children: RothIRA or 529?
(Thu, 30 Nov 2006 15:29:07 GMT)
Retirement planning advisor :
I'm 40 and plan to pay my 2 kids (approx $1200/year) for helping in the family business. My financial advisor suggested putting their money into a RothIRA. Advantage: RothIRA's can be used for college or saved for retirement if they don't attend college. But the salesperson thinks that's nuts, if the kids do attend college the 529s are much better. Well, I do expect they will attend college; which alternative is better?
Now, if I choose the RothIRA, I would open the accounts in their names. B

- Resolved Question: Best Use of Inheritance?
(Thu, 17 Aug 2006 15:46:08 GMT)
Retirement planning advisor :
My share of an inheritance from my mom will be $135,000. Her financial advisor says that if paid to me in a lump sum, about $50-55,000 will be taxable as ordinary income.
I took a 2nd mortgage last year on my house to buy a vacation home that needs some work in order to be usable for myself and as a seasonal rental. I owe $95,000 on the 6.5% loan; repairs and upgrades will run about $35,000. Getting this house in order is a top priority. I hope to retire next year, and planned to sell the
- Resolved Question: Early withdrawal from Roth IRA retirement account?
(Tue, 07 Mar 2006 21:32:20 GMT)
Retirement planning advisor :
I have a question about early withdrawal from Roth IRA account. I have been investing money from my Roth IRA account tax free for 3 months now, I see some growth in it, and plan to do more aggressive investment to grow the money.... I know it is not a good decision to make because I might lose them all, again, I am only 26, I afford to lose that $2000 and start from scratch again.... Anyway, I plan to invest and grow my $2000 to $30,000 in 2-5 years. There are several exception to touch the
