Open Question: I am interested in joining one of the USAF Bands. What should I know?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 03:16:50 GMT)
I am a guitarist. Right now I'm still getting my education and I'm looking into maybe joining one of the USAF Bands (any one that will take me) as a possible career choice. How competitive is it? What kind of education should I have before even trying to audition? How often do positions open up? Is there a retirement and health-care provided? Any other information would be appreciated. Also, I was wondering if the USAF Academy had a program involving music.

Open Question: Who else will see her off?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 01:56:40 GMT)
I am not to proud to admit that September 16th will be a very sad day. We will finally see Discovery lift off for not only her final voyage, but the shuttle fleets final voyage. But you know what I am not looking forward to even less than this, July 29th. Why? because its the last time the baby, the little one Space Shuttle Endeavour takes her final journey which will be heart breaking. I remember May 1992 when she made her first flight, although sad as she replaced Princess Challenger (may they RIP) she instantly become may favorite to watch, and every time she went up i remember saying and still do to myself "Challenger this is for you" So although it is one from last, and I think it is only right that Discovery make the last journey. I can honestly say Endeavour, it may be early but God speed, and once landed know you have earned your retirement. Does anyone else have a story, or opinion to share regarding watching their first shuttle launch? will you miss the days of watching your favorite shuttle take flight? Do you think they will ever be brought back out of retirement? - My dream. To one day stand enough to Endeavour and have a photo taken next to her.

Open Question: How long do I have to keep the negatives of past clients?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 01:54:32 GMT)
I retired several years ago from wedding and portrait photography. I have tried to reach some of my clients but it is very time consuming. I am willing to send them what I have on file, but most people have moved or are divorced. I was told by another photographer that if I post and ad in the local newspaper announcing my retirement and telling people that they can have their negatives for free if they contact me is all I have to do. After the set time alloted I can then destroy the negatives. That sounds a little harsh to me but I need to clear out the files in storage. Any suggestions?

Open Question: I'm an up and coming artist. Where around town could I preform?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 00:39:33 GMT)
I'm well known around my town, I sing, play guitar, and I'm learning how to play piano. Ever since 5th grade I've wanted to preform in front of a crowd and headline my own tour. I know that I have the abilities to get a record deal, but I just need to get known for my musical talents. So, now that you know a little bit about my passion, I have NO idea where I could preform for a crowd. I know that I could preform at coffee shops, retirement homes, and at my school talent show, but I want something bigger. I'm not talking about like opening up for Boys Like Girls, but like holding a mini-concert of a few of my original songs and some covers. Any help would be greatly appreciated! -Robert

Open Question: Would Americans be better off if the government left us to look after ourselves?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 00:02:22 GMT)
I don't want the public school system-I can provide for my kids education just fine. I don't want social security-I can save for my own retirement thank you. I don't need Obamacare-I can get excellent care in the free market. In fact if the government would stop "providing" for Americans, two amazing things would happen. 1) Our hellish debt could immediately be brought under control 2) The economy and job creation would immediately rev up. How? The government would no longer have any excuse to seize 1/2 of everything I have to waste on mismanaged programs that are bankrupting our nation. I could provide for myself and keep my pay to spend as I chose. Lauren God bless you. Don't get discouraged! chloe Who said any thing about homeschooling. My church could easily fund and organize a school and we could make kids far more intelligent than the public system. All Washington does is run failing program that bankrupt the country! Being independent is what liberty is all about.

Open Question: When Is Obama Going To Admit That Social Security and Medicare Are Colossal Government Failures?
(Tue, 09 Mar 2010 22:36:57 GMT)
No program in history has made more people poor than the Ponzi scheme that is Social Security Retirement Income. If seniors gave me their FICA taxes over 45 years, they'd retire with a 2000% rate of return, as opposed to a negative real return. Here's a math lesson for Liberals: 1 + 1 = 2.

Open Question: Tax Refunds being held because of husband's old debt?
(Tue, 09 Mar 2010 20:00:21 GMT)
Last year we didn't get over half our federal refund back because of a 2005 tax return. I was unable to get any info as to why because I wasn't married to my husband then. He said he called and it was because he had to take some retirement out that year and they must of not taxed enough. Well this year, we didn't get our state back. They told me that it was because of an adjusted gross on the federal return during 2005 and it didn't match up with the state. According to the state it had nothing to do with retirement. My husband claims it does and I just don't understand. If he filed jointly with his ex that year, wouldn't she be responsible for half of the taxes due? They have held a total of $3500 and saying we still owe $500.00 more. Can someone explain this to me?

Open Question: Why should i buy a Mac?
(Tue, 09 Mar 2010 18:38:05 GMT)
Why should I buy another Mac? I have owned an ibook G4 for 6 years, and it has worked well, never had a virus. But I’m tired of never being able to get software for a Mac, never getting Hulu, always several years late on Quicken, etc. and not being able to access sites like my bank or retirement fund, because their encryption won’t recognize apple’s safari or firefox version. When I can get a Dell or HP for half the cost of a new apple laptop, why should I stay with Mac??

Open Question: How come MLB players never go broke after their careers like most NBA, NFL, and boxing athletes?
(Tue, 09 Mar 2010 18:22:54 GMT)
You always hear it . . . how a boxer is making a comeback. But are they really? Most boxers who make a comeback also have financial issues. Like a Floyd Mayweather Jr. Sure Mayweather is still at the peak of his ability but even when he came back there was talks about how badly he needed the money. Mike Tyson has reportedly been rumored to make a comback as well. He isn't doing so good either. Muhammad Ali . . . the most well known boxer in the history of the sport stayed to fight into the 1980s and people knew it was because he really needed the money. Now look at him. Then we got these NFL and NBA guys who go out and buy 10 million dollar mansions and 10 cars and then they go broke in less than ten years after their retirement. Some go broke DURING their careers!!! But we never hear of major league baseball players going broke. Whether they're black white or hispanic . . . they just seem to do well after their baseball careers are over. Rarely do we hear of MLB players going through legal issues or them going to jail for something stupid. But for whatever reason we always hear of NBA and NFL guys getting caught and going to jail. Why is this?

Resolved Question: Will more Democrats opt for early retirement or defect to the GOP as we get closer to Congressional elections?

A leading House Republican on Thursday predicted more retirements from Democrats and did not deny that the GOP is recruiting additional Democratic lawmakers to switch parties. Rep. Open Question: Is it proper for a priest to tell others of the types of sins he hears during confession?
(Tue, 09 Mar 2010 13:31:51 GMT)
A local priest was being honored at his retirement dinner after 25 years in the parish. A leading local politician and member of the congregation was chosen to make the presentation and to give a little speech at the dinner. However, he was delayed so the priest decided to say his own few words while they waited: "I got my first impression of the parish from the first confession I heard here. I thought I had been assigned to a terrible place. The very first person who entered my confessional told me he had stolen a television set and, when questioned by the police, was able to lie his way out of it. He had also stolen money from his parents, embezzled from his employer, had an affair with his best friend's wife, and taken illicit drugs. I was appalled. "But as the days went on I learned that my people were not all like that and I had, indeed, come to a fine parish full of good and loving people." Just as the priest finished his talk, the politician arrived full of apologies for being late. He immediately began to make the presentation and said: "I'll never forget the first day our parish priest arrived. In fact, I had the honor of being the first person to go to him for confession." Moral: Never, never, NEVER-EVER be late.

Has anyone else heard this & if so, can a reference be given to support it? Hope to get lots of answers......... Cheers. Just to add a bit for the reasoning behind the idea of a shortened retirement; Shift work. Irregular eating patterns. Irregular sleeping patterns. The stresses involved in the actual job. Periods of relative inactivity interspersed with periods of intense activity. Etc, etc...

Resolved Question: What do other supporters of illegals have to say about one of their own arrested for helping illegals break?
(Tue, 09 Mar 2010 02:31:34 GMT)
What do other supporters of illegals have to say about one of their own arrested for helping illegals break the law ?McALLEN, Texas — A south Texas county commissioner pleaded guilty Monday to two felony counts stemming from her putting illegal immigrants who worked at her home on the county payroll. Hidalgo County Commissioner Sylvia Handy pleaded guilty to making false statements on her 2005 income tax return and conspiracy to conceal or harbor illegal immigrants, according to federal court records. Lawyers had prepared to begin picking the jury for her trial Monday. U.S. District Judge Ricardo Hinojosa allowed Handy to remain free on bond until her June sentencing, in exchange for promising to resign her elected position Tuesday, court records show. Arrested in April, Handy faced an 11-count indictment, but had remained free on bond and continued working as a county commissioner. Calls to Handy's attorney Al Alvarez and her precinct office were not immediately returned Monday. Handy's husband Juan Espronceda also was charged in the case, but the charges were supposed to be dropped after Handy's sentencing, according to court records. Federal investigators alleged Handy defrauded the county of $111,000 in salaries for the immigrants. Some of their county salaries also went toward paying a $53,000 bill consolidation loan Handy took out in 2004, according to the indictment. Handy allegedly instructed a county human resources employee to prepare a fraudulent job application for one woman using an assumed identity, including someone else's Social Security number. At one point, Handy promoted her. The woman moved in 2004 into a house in Mercedes owned by Handy and continued collecting county paychecks. In June 2005, the woman withdrew $4,400 from her assumed identity's retirement account. The process allegedly included sham interviews with other job applicants before another illegal immigrant ultimately was hired for a maintenance job. She collected county checks while working in Handy's home in 2004. Handy has served on the county commission since first running for her seat in 1996. She was Hidalgo County's first elected woman commissioner. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/tx/6903526.html

Open Question: Which players won't return to your team next year?

Of the players on your teams 2010 opening day roster, which ones do you think will not be back in 2011 due to trade, free agency, retirement, or some other reason. Even if the Padres are miraculously contending by the trade deadline, it would take a world series win to keep Adrian here(not going to happen). David Eckstein was resigned late 2009 before Kevin Towers was fired and I just don't see him coming back with the youth movement.

Open Question: What jobs in the civilian world count military time towards retirement?
(Tue, 09 Mar 2010 00:07:55 GMT)
My husband has been in the army for about tn years and will be getting out pretty soon. I think the FBI or secret service or something will count his military time towards retirement, but I don't know for sure. What other ones are there. We would hate for those ten years to count for nothing. My husband is currently deployed. Though this is his third deployment, this is his first with a wife. And we had a baby in the middle of this deployment. As he puts it, the army is a good occupation for a single guy. It is putting a lot of stress on the whole family. That's why he's getting out.

I have worked for a small company (~20 employees) for the past 5 years. Now, I'm moving to another company. I have about $80K built up in what my employer refers to as a "profit-sharing retirement plan." It's administered by a 3rd party, and contributions are made on my behalf, I'm not sure when this is done or how much I'm putting in. Once yearly I get to choose which funds my money is invested in, and I get quarterly statements. I guess this is like a 401K but I'm not sure, since I don't really know what a 401K is. It's actually kind of shameful how little I know about this. The office manager has assured me that I can just leave my money there after I leave, but honestly it makes me a little bit nervous to do so. So would this be the type of thing I could "roll over" into another account, something over which I could exercise more direct supervision? I'm hoping to avoid paying taxes, of course. Or should I just let the money stay put? If I wanted to move my money, how would I go about doing something like this? Can I just go somewhere like T Rowe Price (I see their commercials on TV) and tell them to take care of it for me?

Open Question: Invest in BOTH Traditional 401K AND Roth 401k?
(Mon, 08 Mar 2010 23:48:32 GMT)
I am 30 years old and just started a new career. My employer offers both a Traditional 401K and a Roth 401K. I have zero experience investing and have never owned a retirement account before. Which should I choose....or can I choose both? I have allocated 10% of my income to invest for now. Should I do 5% in 401K and 5% in Roth 401K....or other options? I am totally confused by all the choices and not sure where to put my money so that I can make to best investment. My employer does offer a "matching" bonus. I currently do not have any other investments or savings. Any advise would be great!! Open Question: John Cena shortest AND longest WWE Champion in history?
(Mon, 08 Mar 2010 23:34:30 GMT)
OK, we all know that John Cena is WWE's Longest Reigning WWE Champion in RAW History (JBL for SD!). But, shouldn't it be pointed out that after WWE Elimination Chamber, Cena is now the SHORTEST Reigning WWE Champion in RAW History? LOL right? Jeff Hardy= Shortest Reigning World Heavyweight Champion in WWE History. John Cena= Longest Reigning AND Shortest Reigning WWE Champion in WWE History. Speaking of Jeff Hardy, he is scheduled to appear on TNA tonight. Along with the In-Ring debut of Rob Van Dam, Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair coming out of Retirement, and the return of The Icon, Sting. EWE NEWS: This week's edition of EWE will be posted this Tuesday, if not then this SATURDAY! So, don't be disapointed because I am posting the show this week regardless. BQ#1: Are you planning on watching WWE or TNA tonight? BQ#2: I just checked my TV and is it a bad move for TNA to have their Monday Night Show also shown this Thursday like they did the Jan. 4th episode? This is a reason why I might not be tuning-in tonight. But, if WWE does another Hornswoggle episode of RAW, then I might tune to TNA. Sorry, you are correct that Bruno holds the record. But, Cena still holds record for shortest which is GREAT AND LOL!!!!!!!!!

Resolved Question: players that came, played occasionly, then left - aka biggest flops of the EPL?
(Mon, 08 Mar 2010 18:28:42 GMT)
Tomas Brolin The man made a name for himself at AC Parma and at the 1994 World Cup with a few stunning goals. At the end of 1995 he moved to Leeds for ₤4.5 million and after arriving with weight problems, ‘Tubby’ scored a shocking 4 goals in 2 seasons all the while heavily lining the pockets of every McDonald’s manager in Leeds. Leeds terminated his contract in 1997 and it was all over for Fatty. Denilson Christiano Ronaldo without a brain would be a very apt title with which to describe Denilson. After signing for Betis for a then record 21.9 million Pounds, he proceeded to dribble himself for 7 years, before everyone realized how crap he really was. After an unsuccessful spell with Bordeaux, he decided to test his talent in the fairer climes of Saudi Arabia and FC Dallas. He seems to have found his level. Except FC Dallas don’t want him anymore. Marco Boogers - West Ham Harry Redknapp wasn't always the streetwise London gaffer he is today. The arrival of 'Mad' Marco Boogers for £1m from Sparta Rotterdam in July 1995 was just one of a number of misjudged West Ham imports. Coming on as a substitute against Manchester United in only his second appearance for the club, Boogers was almost immediately red carded for 'a sickening horror tackle' (The Sun) on Gary Neville. He promptly disappeared, discovered several weeks later hiding in a mobile home in a Dutch caravan park. The Boogers debacle, which ended in a loan deal and subsequent free transfer to Groningen despite his protestations - 'I'm not mental' - was the worst of a dreadful Redknapp collection: Florin Raducioiu arrived for £2.4m in July 96 and was sold at a £600,000 loss six months later after missing training for a Harvey Nichols shopping trip; Portuguese supermodel Dani lasted five months before being thrown out for excessive nightclubbing; and £2m star Javier Margas went missing in February last year, turning up later at home in Chile. He, unlike Boogers, did come back. Wim Jonk - Sheffield Wednesday Not only did Jonk look like Michael Palin, but he was as tough in the tackle as him. The Dutchman, signed for £2.5m from PSV Eindhoven in 1998, lolloped anonymously around Wednesday’s midfield for two seasons, the second of which saw them relegated. After experiencing the hurly burly of two First Division games, he sat out the remaining year of his contract, citing a tummy ache. At the end of that season, he retired to concentrate on his poetry. Wednesday fans had their own rhymes for him. Chris Sutton Another Chelsea flop, Sutton never really did much at Chelsea in one season, after transferring from Blackburn Rovers for ₤10 million. Luckily he did better at Celtic forming a deadly partnership with Henrik Larsson. Aaah, the Scottish League, a retirement home for below average English strikers. Massimo Taibi - Manchester United Sir Alex signed him to replace Peter Schmeichel? In 1999, with Raimond van der Gouw always wearing his bridesmaid’s outfit and Mark Bosnich too cocky by half, Sir Alex Ferguson splashed out £4.5m on Venezia journeyman Massimo Taibi. The omnipresent tracksuit bottoms should have caused Ferguson to pause for thought. Instead, Taibi conceded two sloppy goals at Liverpool on his debut and one to Wimbledon the following week. Then the fun began: Southampton scored three at Old Trafford, including a Matthew Le Tissier “shot” that trickled through Taibi’s legs and was so soft, it barely crossed the line. Eight days later, Chelsea put five past him at Stamford Bridge and this Italian’s job was over, little more than a month after it had began. Taibi rotted in the reserves until Reggina took him on loan before a £2.5m purchase at season’s end. He was, noted a generous Roy Keane, “clearly a good keeper”. Clearly. Juan Sebastian Veron - Manchester United signed for 28.1 million from lazio on a five year deal and lasted just 2 years before being sold onto Chelsea for less than half man utd payed. The strange thing is he was touted as one of the best midfielders in the world and seem to lose all talent the minute he steped off the plane at Manchester Airport. Corrado Grabbi - Blackburn Rovers How the Italians chuckled in 2001 when Graeme Souness, manager of Blackburn Rovers, paid £6.75m for Juventus cast-off Corrado Grabbi, who had just scored 19 goals in 34 Serie B (not to be confused with Serie A) games for Ternana. Grabbi’s work ethic was never in doubt, but two goals in 30 Premiership games suggested Souness might have been better buying a Serie A player. After an especially profligate performance in the 2003 Uefa Cup against Genclerbirgli, Souness lost patience. Grabbi was bought by Ancona. The fee was undisclosed, but it wasn’t £6.75m. Sean Dundee - Liverpool In 1998, Karlsruhe were relegated from the Bundesliga. Their tubby star forward, Sean “Crocodile” Dundee, scored just three times. These facts d ( continued from above or below dependin

Open Question: Everyone should work or not eat, What?
(Mon, 08 Mar 2010 18:13:36 GMT)
do you think? What if a person had spent 65 years working long hours for low wages, making his boss lots of money and paying into Social Security for his retirement. Should he no longer be entitled to food or a roof over his head?

Open Question: Has anyone noticed the absence of Husband / Father in TV commercials?
(Mon, 08 Mar 2010 17:32:44 GMT)
I recently saw a TV commercial the other day, I believe it was Cindy Crawford. She must be endorsing some home design products like Martha Steward, in her retirement from modeling, lol. In the Commercial, it's Mom (Cindy) and her two lovely daughters, they're home in the beautiful house and then in the backyard, but no Dad, as if Dad doesn't exist as part of the family image in this commercial. It's all about the goodness of Family Life linked to the products, but just no husband or dad present. Just a refection of modern times?
