- Open Question: Wondering how much to save for retirement?
(Sun, 08 Jun 2008 02:25:31 GMT)
Roth ira retirement plan :
I am going to be 28 this year and I have about 15000 of funds in my employer sponsored 401K. I am currently in debt though I have a plan to knock it out next year thereby reducing the funds I send to Satan's spawn each month (the credit card companies). I am thinking about starting a Roth IRA next year as well as I understand you can withdraw the money anytime you may need it (such as an emergency, job loss, etc). With the Roth IRA and the contributions to the 401K, I would be saving a comb

- Resolved Question: Why should I open a traditional IRA or a roth IRA?
(Thu, 08 May 2008 00:13:49 GMT)
Roth ira retirement plan :
I am trying to learn about the IRA and roth IRA but I don't understand where the benefits are?
In a traditional IRA income taxes are paid by distributions while by a roth IRA income taxes are paid by contributions.
I am not sure if capital gain taxes are paid or not by traditional and roth IRAs, would that be the benefit in investing in those retirement plans, avoiding capital gain taxes?
Where are taxes lower, in a traditional IRA or a roth IRA if I invest in a mutual fund that pays every ye
- Voting Question: Is this good enough?
(Wed, 07 May 2008 17:54:51 GMT)
Roth ira retirement plan :
I will be starting a state job soon that offers a wonderful 20 year state retirement plan. I also have started a Roth IRA through T. Rowe Price to which I plan of contributing at least 2000 to every year.
I have no debt except for my car, and I am working on getting my personal savings up to $10,000.
I am 32 and a single parent of 2. Am I on track? Does this seem good enough for a sound retirement?

(Wed, 30 Apr 2008 03:18:46 GMT)
Roth ira retirement plan :
I'm trying to find ways to reduce our tax liability as much as possible for next year's return, as my husband found a job after finishing college this year and our combined income should be about $102,000 come next April 15.
I earned about $60,000 last year and as joint filers, we got back $1600 from the IRS for 2007. According to the tax tables, (at our current W-4 exemptions) we should owe IRS about $1200 next year if we don't do anything, so I'm trying to find out which retirement plan
- Resolved Question: I contribute my company's 401k match limit. Should I go all out up to $15,500?
(Tue, 29 Apr 2008 16:29:47 GMT)
Roth ira retirement plan :
My company will match up to 4%. 4% is what I currently contribute. Since it's tax-deferred, I'm tempted to contribute up to the max of $15,500 annually. Or should I invest the money elsewhere, where it could make a greater return? My 401k plan has averaged 6.73% 3 years, 10.10% 5 years, 4.37% 10 years. It was down for last year: 1.11%. I already max out a roth IRA. 23 years to retirement.

Roth ira retirement plan :
My fiance has moved to a new job. The previous job set up a retirement account for her. The account dropped below $1000 (to $990) so Fidelity told her she needed to do something with the account. I believe the employer requires the $1000 minimum. She has a few options, take the cash (minus the taxes and penalties), create a traditional IRA, or create a ROTH IRA. We want to keep the money invested. We know the difference between a Roth and a traditional. We just dont know which would be

However, I know that one portion of it is a partnership I have stakes in (7.2%), which as of 6 years ago filed corporation papers listing a capital input of around 4.5 million, which has probably grown, so let's say that's 500-550k. At 500k, how much will I be charged when I inherit it? And with the remainding money, what do I do to save it for my retirement? I know that a Roth IRA has a financial limit not allowing for me t

Roth ira retirement plan :
I am 100% vested in a retirement account from my previous job. I have 6,800 dollars that I can cash out or roll into a traditional IRA. I prefer roth but they specify traditional. Paperwork states that if I cash it out I am taxed 20% upfront plus an additional 10% for being younger than 59. I have tried to read and understand the fine print on the IRS website, but still have questions.
If I cash it out, is the 30% withdrawn before I get the checK? I know the 20% does, but I don't know about

Roth ira retirement plan :
Ok. I don't have a 401k, but its equivalent for government employees: 457. This is an voluntary/optional plan; I am covered by the County's own retirement plan. The 457 plan works just like a 401k with the exception of 2 main things: 1) there is no employer match (this plan is voluntary remember) and 2) I can't borrow money from this. So why can't I set up my own 401k-type plan? I know another option I have is an IRA (regular or Roth), but what I want to know is why can't I set up my own

Roth ira retirement plan :
I had a 401K plan at a previous job which was funded with profit sharing money. Due to some unforseen expenses that have come up, I am going to take the $3,000 lump sum in lieu of rolling it over into another 401K account. (Don't worry--I have a Roth IRA and am saving for retirement)
The plan was originally $3,600 but by law they have to take out 20% mandatory withholding.
Will this $600 that was withheld (or a portion of it) be returned to me with my 2008 tax return? I have always received
