- Open Question: Does anyone out there expect American Corporations to bring back the jobs to American Workers without tarriff?
(Tue, 10 Jun 2008 18:35:13 GMT)
Social security retirement :
You have to be smoking crack to thing for a second that American Multinational Corporations will ever look for the betterment of their country over their own personal greed!
Unless we want to live like third world countries on the race to the bottom our only solution in tarriffs. The jobs that our parents, grand parents and great grand parents are gone to cheap labor markets for higher corporate profits. My dad worked one job with healthcare and retirement and social security was lagnappe,

MR. RUSSERT: But, Senator, you said last year??earlier this year that everything should be on the table for Social Security, including looking at raising retirement age, indexing benefits, and then suddenly you said, ??No, no. Those aren??t off??on the table; I??m taking them off the table.?

- Open Question: Has anyone here ever gotten out of poverty?? If so, how did you do it??
(Tue, 10 Jun 2008 08:40:46 GMT)
Social security retirement :
I am 51 years young, and was forced into early retirement 7 years ago - due to a physical disability. My only income right now is my Social Security Disability check, which does not meet all my basic needs. I live in gov't subsidized housing, and am applying for Food Stamps, etc. I'm just starting up a small home-based business. I'm unable to work outside the home right now. However, my health is steadily improving - and I want to do all I can to get out of poverty ASAP! If you have been
- Open Question: Co-own house with parents - they need to file bankruptcy! Options?
(Tue, 10 Jun 2008 07:54:38 GMT)
Social security retirement :
We built a home with my parents 4 years ago and have been sharing the mortgage payments equally. After multiple strokes and serious medical issues with both, they are now dependent on social security and have depleted their investments and retirement funds. They cannot cope with their credit payments and need to file bankruptcy. We already had their names taken off the title for the house. They still give me a check each month to cover their half of the mortgage, which is now "rent". They
- Open Question: What would YOU do if you were forced to live on Social Security Alone?
(Tue, 10 Jun 2008 05:46:38 GMT)
Social security retirement :
I received that yearly statement that the government sends to Americans 25 & up letting them know their SSI benefits if they were to retire this year. Mine says I'll get about 1,100 dollars per month. I couldn't imagine living off of that solely.
I am putting money away now and trying to prepare myself for retirement.
What would you do if you were forced to live in Social Security alone?
- Open Question: Is retirement income such as Social Security and pensions taxable? If so, are they taxed as regular income?
(Mon, 09 Jun 2008 22:11:25 GMT)
Social security retirement :
I am trying to do some long term planning as to how much money I need to retire. Some people have told me that Social Security is not taxed. Others have said that a government pension is not taxed. I understand the taxes around 401K's and IRAs. But the tax question around SS and government pensions will make a huge difference in my planning calculations.
- Open Question: Obama plans to vastly increase income and other taxes -- are you supporting his tax increases or fighting them
(Mon, 09 Jun 2008 18:52:08 GMT)
Social security retirement :
An associate with connections in the Obama camp says that as president Obama plans on instituting a Value Added Tax (VAT). If this associate is to be believed, Obama also plans to cancel the tax deductibility of state taxes, raise capital gains taxes, reinstate estate taxes ("death taxes"), lift the cap on the amount of income subject to social security taxes and impose a new ??Patriot? tax with a confiscatory level of penalties for those who give up their U.S. citizenships/LPR. - Resolved Question: Why doesn't Ron Paul participate in the lucrative congressional pension retirement plan?
(Mon, 09 Jun 2008 00:26:18 GMT)
Social security retirement :
I hear its like privatized social security and that congress thought they could make more money if they had this instead of regular social security like everyone else.
Why doesn't Ron Paul participate but takes regular Social Security instead? Does he not like getting extra tax payer money?
beesting- I just assumed he accept regular SS because he has to pay into it like everyone else and they automatically send you a check after a certain age even if you do not retire I thought.

- Open Question: What do economists say about the social security crisis?
(Sat, 07 Jun 2008 20:33:45 GMT)
Social security retirement :

(Wed, 04 Jun 2008 22:52:56 GMT)
Social security retirement :
Spending money in today??s society is becoming more and more of a hassle. What is causing so many people in today??s society to be so conservative with their money? The downfall of our economy has caused many of us to become very careful on what we spend our money on. There are many reasons why so many of us are trying to be careful with the money we earn. No one actually even has anymore extra money to throw around on items they know that they will not need to survive. Another reason t
- Resolved Question: Do liberals think the government can take better care of them, then they can take care of themselves?
(Wed, 04 Jun 2008 18:09:57 GMT)
Social security retirement :
What exactly can the government do for you, that you can't do for yourself? Through my own ambition I provided my family with good health insurance that gives me piece of mind. It makes me sick to think Obama could mess with that coverage in order to cover the irresponsible. The government bankrupted Social Security and Medicaid. Once again exercising personal responsibilty, I have invested in a retirement fund that will ensure my retirement will be a happy one when I'm older regardless of the
- Resolved Question: How does raising the social security cap help the average working person?
(Wed, 04 Jun 2008 04:07:26 GMT)
Social security retirement :
OK. B. Hussein Obama is proposing that the cap on social security be removed. This means that companies will be required to pay substantially more in FICA taxes. Since companies generally budget a fixed amount for payroll, how will this increase affect the average worker when the company eliminates the matching contribution for 401K retirement accounts to offset the increase? I don't see any positive benefit for me if the company stop matching my 401K contribution.
This is the second quest
- Resolved Question: Obama supporter's why are the 2001 and 2003 Tax Cuts so Bad?

- Resolved Question: 65 y.o. husband on down low. Married after he retired from military, for 14 years. Want divorce. Need advice.?
(Wed, 04 Jun 2008 01:50:56 GMT)
Social security retirement :
We have no kids together. After 14 years, I find out he is a cross dressing gay. I want a divorce but I am told I will get nothing. I am not entitled to his military retirement because we married after he retired. I will not get any money from his social security because of his age - he is not employable.
There has to be a way to get something out of this. I don't deserve this pain.

- Resolved Question: Hey tell me what you think about my way of fixing social security?
(Mon, 02 Jun 2008 06:33:16 GMT)
Social security retirement :
The market even through its slow times has proven to double your money every ten years for example if i had 20,000 10 years it would be 40,000 then ten years 80,000 and so on. What if the goverment made a mandate that each individual to take out a loan of 70,000 dollars setting the retirement age at 50 years old. This loan would have no interest. This loan you would not be able to touch until you reach the age of retirement. it would cost 116.00 month and you pay for it the day you are bor
- Resolved Question: Does it make financial sense to wait until 66 to retire?
(Sun, 01 Jun 2008 21:27:38 GMT)
Social security retirement :

(Sat, 31 May 2008 23:17:59 GMT)

- Resolved Question: why is there no medical coverage for seniors who turn 62?
(Sat, 31 May 2008 15:57:06 GMT)
Social security retirement :
When a senior turns 62 they are allowed to collect social security but at the same time there is no medical coverage offered to them until the age of 65.this doesn't make good sense.I believe there should be a petition started to incorporate medical coverage for seniors that reach retirement age at 62
- Resolved Question: some retires are not getting a stimulus check??
(Sat, 31 May 2008 05:12:03 GMT)

I have heard that some retires are not getting a stimulus check. I was told that it depends on when a person started receiving their social security. Also when I quoted our income, that was a combined social security and retirement from General Motors. Does that make a difference ?
- Voting Question: Why so much spending???
(Sat, 31 May 2008 01:52:43 GMT)
Social security retirement :
i am 27 my social security statement says RIGHT on the front page and i qoute "In 2007 we will begin paying more in benefits than we collect in taxes. Without changes, by 2041 the Social Security Trust Fund will be exhausted*and there will be only enough money to pay only about $.78 for every Dollar of scheduled benifits. We need to resolve these issues soon to make sure Social Security continues to provide a foundation for future generations"

- Resolved Question: Retirement Calculation - WOW!!!?
(Thu, 29 May 2008 21:06:11 GMT)
Social security retirement :
I'm in my early 20s, and have been crunching numbers, and I can't figure out how I'll ever be able to save enough for retirement.
I figure that if I want to live comfortably ~50 years from now when I retire (~age 70), I would need to have at least $10,000,000 cash in the bank if I want to be able to live off of my interest payments, and leave the nest egg for my children! And that's just if I want to live fairly comfortably (I'm assuming there will be no pensions or Social Security by 2060, s

I'm in my early 20s, and have been crunching numbers all night to try to avoid ending up like my parents - pretty much BROKE and fast approaching retirement.

- Resolved Question: Should Politicians have the exact same type of medical coverage that the tax payers have as we pay for it?
(Wed, 28 May 2008 20:59:28 GMT)
Social security retirement :
Currently the politicians have thier own medical & retirement plans that we pay for then suggest we buy our own when our tax payer dollars pay for their medical care &lve their pay along with their retirement which is not social security linked according to what I understand. For a politician to suggest that our country should not have a government medical program when all developed industrialized nations have them for the working class not just for the rich and impoverished is a bit inane to

(Wed, 28 May 2008 17:09:39 GMT)
Social security retirement :
I write a monthly check to an IRA acct. If I exceed the 13,000 yearly earned income limit for social security I am penalized 1 dollar for every 2 earned. I am able to contribute any excess over13,000 to the IRA, but I want to be sure that it is deducted from the earned income not the gross. Thanks
- Resolved Question: Teachers make pretty good money!!?
(Wed, 28 May 2008 12:04:39 GMT)
Social security retirement :
Why is it that the media keeps pushing down our throat that teachers don??t make enough money? If you look at the stats teachers make damn good money for working about 7 months a year, Ill take $50,000 a year and have every holiday off, and the summer. I also don??t have to worry about my job performance because once I get my tenier I can??t really get fired, and of course my great retirement package, I get about 75% of my gross earnings for the last five years. I also don??t pay social s

(Wed, 28 May 2008 04:34:19 GMT)
Social security retirement :
My mother owns her house outright, but due to the stock market her retirement has dwindled to near nothing and will probably only last another year. She receives social security and my brother lives with her but does not contribute. My other brothers and I are trying to convince her to plan for this outcome but she feels like we are trying to control her. We believe there are more options NOW, instead of when she runs out of money. We want to minimize the impact to our immediate families fi

- Resolved Question: Would you prefer to have a retirement option added of a Social Security personal account ?
(Tue, 27 May 2008 01:28:51 GMT)
Social security retirement :
American Solutions promotes an idea where you would have an option take the money you typically contribute to social security and invest it in the purchase of annuities. You could cash this annuity out at retirement and get a monthly payment. As an investment, you would likely earn more. You would still have the option of using the current system of putting away for your retirement, but this second option would be different in that you could pass on this investment to your family. I am against the idea myself, but I would like some rational arguments for it and a thorough explanation of the risks. PLEASE NO IRRATIONAL BS; there's plenty of that on YA alrea

Social security retirement :
Say a person is entitled to full retirement benefits at age 66, but they retire from a full-time job at age 62, but don't actually apply for SSI until age 66 (they wait 4 years). Now will their monthly SSI check be based on age 62 or 66?
